The Model Works

So at the moment the replacement for Stewart is a 20 year old rookie who has played a about 90 minutes of competetive football in his life and has been completely bullied out of gamesand never scored a goal & the replacement for Roberts, can't cross a ball, tackle, shoot of pick out a pass

Yep its working
I'm not sure we can buy anyone until the money has come through or is guaranteed. We've only had the dosh for 5 minutes! Let's' see what we do with it.

Losing Stewart, Gooch and potentially Roberts within the space of 24 hours will likely make all the rest of the experienced players want to leave as well. That is a huge downside.
They're trying to shift Pritch and Baath too which leaves 09 as the sole senior pro bar the guy with a cruciate

Agree been a very long time since we ever made any profit on players going to be interesting to see if this change in running the club works
Suppose it so far so good

Sorry but a good business model does not turn down £15m in profit now when they could potentially get £0 in 9 months time.

I personally think you have got to have a longer term view. You will pay a premium on whoever you bring in following the sale purchase price and wages, there is some of that gone already, this sets your stall for future incoming bids, which will be lower because people know you wont hold out.

It think poor timing and being too scared to cut your nose from time to time creates false economy. Its dog eat dog.

Then there is losing your two best players for a season and annoying your fan base for future sales.

A twat of a man but Ashley was great at this, clubs knew not to dick him about, that is the negotiating persona we need.

I wouldnt even consider the roberts bid of £3m up front, I would add several on for the cheek

If selling players causes us to have a poor season, then the other players might not max out their potential value. Say Clarke only gets 6 goals this year but wants to leave at the end of it, we might only get £10m for him, whereas if he has a repeat of last season, we could get £20m. So I don't think it's as simple as the op suggests.

Never said it was a ‘massive accomplishment’. Just making an observation on the £15m we’re making not been taking out of a squad that is competing at a good championship level.

You were claiming it to be something very successful no? You declared that the model works and the one and only example you gave to prove that it worked was that we drew 0-0 at Coventry.

I think people are forgetting the other thing the 'model' depends on. The young players we bring in have to be given sufficient game time in order to develop and grow in value. Some of the players being written off as shite on here on this thread may look like different players by christmas if they get a 20 game run in the first team. Thats what often happens with young players, but they do not develop playing in the U21's or sitting on the bench.

In order to get these young lads on the pitch we need to move out some older players.

Sadly for us, this relies on the fans being patient.

I think people are forgetting that both players are in the last years of their contracts, will be wanting higher wages for the renewals and that both these bids have come unexpectedly the day before deadline. COP tomorrow will tell the real story but the club has to act on the situation in front of them.

I'll enjoy reading @Grumpy Old Man analyzing the balance sheet while I read the Financial Times on Saturday afternoon in the South Stand. Headlines "Sunderland Most Sustainable Club in League One". Sorry for dragging you into this Grumpy.
I'm in my usual Zen state watching the knicker wetting. At the end of the day, qué Sera sera. Everything else is sound and fury, signifying nothing, as an Elizabethan playwright siad.

After cashing in on last season's feel good factor which, tellingthe fans, we're looking to improve year on year
Starting to look like Dreyfus & Speakman are Donald & Methven mark 2
Had to sell those season tickets somehow. Tell the fans you’re aiming for automatic promotion then sign some bairns for pennies. Then on deadline day say how hard you tried and January is only a few months away and then next season will be better.

Made £9m+ on Stewart
Might make £5m on Roberts

Neither were in the squad at the weekend and we got a draw against a team how’ve spent huge and are expected to be top 6 minimum.

Will make future profits on Clarke, Hume, Ballard, Cirkin, Bellingham, Ekwah, Patterson, Rigg, Neil etc.

Still time for some additions and a more than capable manager at the helm.

Might not be the quick fire progress some are looking for but it’s a healthy way to run a club and a business.
I think we're meant to have good replacements in first. We have struggled to find one centre forward so where will two come from?

Making money on players only works if it progresses us.

Our summer signings so far aren't ready. With limited playing time so far only Bellingham has shown anything, the rest appear to be injured or just not ready for firts team football in the Championship. Dack isn't fit enough yet.

At this moment in time progress seems unlikely. We will have a clearer view on Saturday morning.

Couldn’t agree more. Some had Ekwah written off after two games.

If being a 2nd flight development club is the model working... then it's not up to standard. This season marks the longest spell the club has ever had out of the top flight. That's the longest spell EVER.

We're looking up to the likes of Southampton. Clubs with limited or no history.

If I wanted to support a financial model I'd spend Saturday afternoons standing at natwest, but instead I choose to watch sunderland play football!

And we are now in a higher division than when the model was implemented....what's not to love.
