The Laughing Stock of World Cricket (AGAIN)

During the summer I was asked by a couple of old gadgees at the cricket if I went to any of the England games and they looked a bit taken aback when I replied that I wouldn't go to watch those useless overrated b*****ds if they were playing in my front garden.....perhaps they can see my point of view now.

How many of the current squad are public school like?

Curran. Anymore?

The people who run it - MCC ham and egg ties and all that. I played cricket for 40 years and played against all these "nomadic" sides - Yorkshire Gents, Craven Gents, Hawks, Pilgrims, etc. You had to be invited into them - and the regional MCC side. Not many lads from Dawdon invited to play for them but a few from Durham Johnston and Barnard Castle no doubt.

That’s of course true. But I’m not sure you can blame them for the current lot playing shit shots

f***ing criminal what FTECB is doing to our game from the top down. We the loyal supporters and club players do not deserve this. The way the game in this country is being tarnished around the world making us all a laughing stock. As a supporter and player I feel the Test team represents me as supposedly a representation at the highest level of what our game has to offer. And I'm f***ing embarrassed of the image of us they're giving to the world. Every bit as embarrassing as the daily shit show from Westminster being played out to the world.

Hang your heads in shame you greedy corrupt bastards.

Hmmm on reflection now I’ve calmed down.

We are not a million miles away from a being a very decent side. The Windies did a job on us well and truely. They have clearly put a lot of thought into this series with the pitches and how they want to get into England from the off.

That combined with winning the tosses and poor team selection & preparation from England has left us badly exposed.

The Ashes don’t start until late summer, there is plenty of time to find a couple of batsmen in the county game by then that could be the right fit to solidify our top order.

Winning away from home in test cricket is not, nor should it be easy. We will be a different proposition in the summer. Despite the doom and gloom right now it could be a glorious one that none of us ever forget....

I haven't watched much of the cricket in recent times. But it's been coming since 2015.

Bayliss has worked wonders for our white ball cricket. But has muddled our top batsman, and not got them to adapt to playing all 3 forms.

His laidback approach has seen batting levels decline year on year. We haven't been able to bat test match innings in his time here, when have we honestly gritted out an innings, let alone to a draw where the pitch hasn't been a f***ing motorway(Melbourne)

Utterly embarrassing even though I'm glad to see the Windies resurgent. Batting has to change drastically and I don't see that happening under Bayliss or the sorry excuse that is county cricket in England.

And yet our answer to our poor selection process for years, we appoint Ashley Giles. A man who was utterly hopeless as England coach.

Fuck the ECB,fuck Bayliss and fuck Giles.

Spot on, it's a shame he isn't a coach.

Dobell has absolutely nailed this article like Outclassed and out-fought ...England's boy racers run out of road

I think the West Indies (particularly the bowling) is a lot better than people gave them credit for and the batsmen are erratic but when they are good they are very good. I think England got over cocky and though they would go at blast away at the West Indies bowlers getting 500 at 4 an over then Broad and Anderson would skittle them. They didn't account for either the pitches or the fact that the WI really dug in and battled for every run (look at Bravo in the 2nd test) whereas the England team seem to think scoring a breezy run a ball 40 or 50 is test match batting these days. That said if England are going to lose to anyone I like it to be the WI they are a team who have been the doldrums for too long and I think Holder is one of the most impressive blokes in cricket at the moment - a talented player and seemingly a decent bloke.

Holder is the top rated all rounder in test cricket currently.

I agree totally about the Windies cricket, red ball cricket anyway. Lets not forget they have been a force in the white ball stuff more often than not.

Bravo's innings was the best test innings I have seen in a very long time, it could and rightly should go down in cricketing folklore.....

been on the cards for a whole. whole setup is rotten & full of arrogance
Think they have over-complicated the selection on this tour definitely, they picked the right team for the conditions in Sri Lanka and look what happened. Coaches are not the be all and end all but since Gooch was scapegoated a few years ago and replaced with Ramps, they haven't been the same.

Think their obsession with picking people who can bat down to 9-10 has built a team of batters who will either all hit 400 or get rolled over for between 75-250. That's why you need specialist batsmen and bowlers because some of these players are neither one thing or another,

Never mind they will win the ODI series!, which is more important to the ECB.
