The lap of appreciation

I walked out as soon as the whistle went, it's f***ing embarrassing, anyone who says they are doing it for the fans are deluded, they do it to boost their own f***ing ego's by getting supporters to stay behind, throw flags, scarfs, cheer and clap, get a f***ing grip man, we aren't safe but they are happy to take the plaudits, f***ing joke.

First one I've ever missed. Wasn't announced until half the crowd had left and after that performance and the fact we could still be relegated meant the majority had no appetite for the lap of shite.

There's no honour in that group of spineless players.
The whole thing was very odd.

First one I've ever missed.

Stayed until full-time but saw no merit in applauding a lap of "honour" - what has been honourable about this season?

Have nothing against those who stayed behind, but to suggest those that didn't aren't real supporters is embarrassing. Not really sure how the club could even justify the event given that we're not even safe yet.

True. But to call those who did bells end is worse.

However, someone on here said that people who purchased season tickets where holding the club back so don't know why I'm surprised.

Agreed - that's why I said I have no issue with those who decided to stay.

Personally I just couldn't bring myself to clap them. PDC deserves credit, as do Rose, Mignolet and a handful of others. The rest are spineless and only show up when it suits.

If you are referring to my post, best let me know where I mentioned anyone not staying behind. I just think that if you are going to support a team then you support them through thick and thin, good and bad, otherwise everyone would be supporting Manu. Sure we have some ordinary players and have witnessed some very poor displays but not everyone of them has been crap, so not clapping for the crap ones means you are excluding the good ones from your applause.

Truth be known, if it hadn't been for the bairns, I may not have stayed meself.

I stayed behind because I was waiting for people at the other end of the ground who wanted to stay. First time I have for years and it was all a bit shit.

I wanted to stay behind to show my appreciation to Paolo, Mig and Rose.

Paolo even give me a thumbs up back as well

I support the club by paying 300 quid for me season ticket and all the money I spend on away games.

If they wanted to show appreciation, i'd rather they did it during the game, not after.

Only one I;ve ever stayed for was 2010. We finished quite well so I stayed annd applauded

Players appreciating the fans NOT the other way round..

They had 19 games to show their appreciation. I stayed later than I wanted to purely to applaud Rose off the pitch. One of the very few to earn any credit this season.

Fair enough. You did have a go at the fans who left before the lap of appreciation though earlier in the thread.

I was walking down the exit when they made the announcement to stay in your seats. That was probably 5 mins after the match had finished and the ground was already 2/3rds empty by then. Poor timing by the club imo. Did they honestly expect people to turn around and go back to their seats.

Had Wigan not been involved in the cup and lost against Arsenal on the day things may have been different.

Either way my youngest experienced a "lap of honour" for the first time but I always intended to stay no matter what.

I stayed cos my lift home stayed, otherwise I'd have fucked off without looking back.

I clapped Paolo and Ellis, the rest can fuck off. I owe them nothing and I've got nothing to "thank" them for. I can't wait for this time next week when the season's over and I can forget about football. I don't care what happens at SAFC this summer, don't care who stays, leaves or joins. I'm sick of the players, I support Sunderland, I hate them bastards on the pitch bar one or two.

Did PDC have a few tears in his eye?

From what I saw on the telly he had a look of "what the fuck have I let myself in for", coupled with "what can I possibly do with this shower of gutless shit" look in his eyes.
