After the shambolic start to our latest T20 campaign with possibly 2 of the worst performances who could think of 1 six in 2 matches and not scoring at a run a ball here we go makes for some grim reading.
From 2003 to 2009 it was 3 x 6 team group.
2003 - Bottom - 1 win - 4-losses- 2 points
2004- 5th- 2 wins- 3-Losses-4-points
2005-5th-2 wins-5 losses- 1 NR - 5 points
2006- Bottom- 2 wins - 5 losses - 4 points
2007- 5th 1 win - 4 losses - 3 NR - 5 poijts
Then our most successful couple of seasons and the only time in our history we made back to back quarter finals.
2008- Top- 6 wins- 1 loss- 1 Tie- 2 NR- 15 points
2009- 2nd- 5 wins- 4 losses- 1 NR- 11 points.
In 2010 & 11 goes to 9 team groups.
2010- 8th- 4 wins- 8 losses- 4 NR - 12 points
2011- 4th- 6 wins- 6 losses- 4 NR - 16 points.
2012/13 goes back 6 team groups
2012- 3rd- 4 wins - 4 losses- 1 tie- 1 nr - 10 point's
2013- 3rd- 6 wins- 4 losses- 10 points.
2014 to 2019 reverts back to 9 teams.
2014- 6th- 5 wins-7 losses- 2 NR- 12 points.
2015- 6th- 5 wins- 8 losses- 1 NR - 11 points.
2016- 4th- 6 wins- 6 losses- 2 NR- 14 points.
2017- Bottom- 3 wins- 10 losses- 1-NR- 3 points deducted points for Maddison’s over sized bat.
2018- Second- 9 wins- 4 losses- 1 NR- 19 points
2019- 6th- 5 wins- 7 losses- 2 NR- 12 points.
2020 goes back to 6 teams for 1 season.
2020-4th - 4 wins- 5 losses- 1 NR - 9 points.
Reverts back to current formula of 9 teams.
2021- 7th- 5 wins- 8 losses- 1 NR- 11 points.
2022- 8th- 3 wins- 10 losses- 1 NR- 7 points.
2023- 7th - 4 wins- 7 losses- 2 ties- 1 NR - 11 points.
So in the last 10 years we have had 1 season where we got out of the group. It continues to be a huge issue our performances in this format.
When you compare it to the 50 overs where other than last year we tend to do much better not sure there is a simple solution but confused selections don’t help.
This year the competition is more diluted than ever due to the proximity of the IPL finishing and the T20 World Cup staring in June.
Something needs to happen like others this my least favourite format of cricket but I want Durham to do well in every competition.
