Very sad to hear.

My first time in the Fulwell End was v Wrexham in the FA Cup 1976-77 season.. and I heard the famous words in the cage "Sammy is our leader".

Thanks for the memories Big Man, RIP.
Gone but never to be be forgotten Sammy. R.I.P. Those days in the cage.

RIP Sammy lad..
I've just been informed that Sammy is still hanging on. The text that went round earlier was premature and the lad has apologised. This is from another legend.
Fucken haway sammy lad. There are icons and then there’s sammy.

In some ways that might be a wonderful thing in more than one way ...
... he's still among us and can see what people really think of him ;)
:lol::lol::lol:

Is the story of him in the Leazes End with an imitation gun true ?
Hope he is still hanging on in there as he is undoubtedly a legend.

No that was Davie Celtic

So the imitation gun story is at least true, id always thought it was an urban myth.
Can u expand on the whole story mate as loads on here won't have heard it.

Late 60s outside the Leazes,Celtic held a few of them at bay with a pop gun which looked quite real.
This was the game RK and co were in tbe Leazes

One of his relatives has just told me that he is very ill, but still hanging on, so this post might be a bit premature..
Hang on Sammy lad
