...and about 6 months later for them to actually start winning so I wouldn't class them as a great example, there'd be absolute hell on if we started a season like they did and the manager wouldn't have made it past October.

Plenty of time in the window yet, it's a marathon not a sprint. We all know in a 46 game league it's not the start that gets you prompted. There will be plenty of players still looking to move after the season starts and before the window shuts, probably players of a higher calibre.

They had a recruitment team and everything already in place though. They didn’t just sit down in june and make it up as they went along. They were appointed a year or so earlier and the 2020 window was the first result of their work.

If we’d had Speakman, Harvey and all the other scouts and analysts appointed 5/6 months earlier I’d agree but some of them only started work in July!
