Maybe a change of plan then...the new owners wanted to open a hotel

I spoke to a couple of lads working there the other day...whilst at Sunderland exchange and they both said it was student accommodation.

Both cleaners in the exchange said the same, nowt gets past them

It is but mainly by server rooms rather than offices and office workers unfortunately

And the main exchange is in there

If student accomodation then fair enough but Sunderland already has more student accomodation than students. As far as bringing money into the local economy students do indeed spend shit loads in Sunderland and the international students often have lots of disposable money. It's just that the uni need to attract more of them. The amount of Chinese students in particular has dropped significantly over the last 2 - 3 years.

Think thats a better option personally. Not the right place in town for a hotel
Agreed...and students are more likely to spend money in town. With this, Cassaton House, Phoenix House and Crown/Angel House you're going to have hundreds of students eating and drinking around Sunniside each evening

See they're still extending the top 2 floors...lots of work there for someone.

An hotel would have been more aspirational but commercially this will be an easy one to make work and if hotels are needed it will be an opportunity for another site in the city

May reverse with £ falling in value.

I think we do Boris tbf.if more rooms were needed, they'd be built in a shot.on that point, what the fycks happening to the keel square hotel, any info? And the corner flag development. We need to geta spurt on,the place looks a shithole.
What corner flag development? The Keel Square hotel was approved and the developers submitted an amendment to the plans a few weeks ago. I would expect work to start this year.

Hotels?

Are the ones we have busy all the time?
Yes they are

Exactly.the council didn't let anyone take a new lease on the corner flag site.said at the time it had plans for the site.im not a knocker mate, but it's been nearly 2 year for keel Square.its treading water to say the least.

Sounds good, better than knocking it down and hoying up another box.

Really! That's good news that, then in that case we need another hotel or two.
2 pages back I posted all the 3 star and above hotels in central Newcastle. They have 10 times what we do...about 3000 rooms. Some of the people staying in those rooms will be doing business on Wearside

Another hotel to be built on Vaux of course
