The Johnson problem

The team on paper is good enough, the support home and away are second to none and the facilities are Premiership level.
The manager fails to prepare for the opposition in 50% of our games, he sends out headless chickens without motivation or desire to win games at all costs.
He is the problem.
The pitch isn't Premiership level FFS

For this level they are good enough, the preparation and tactics before these horror games seem to be nonexistent. When we get over run from the off the manager does not have the answers and ability to change the formation to our advantage.
Agree the manager must take some of the blame but good teams/players don't get hammered the way this lot does.
I think these players are vastly over rated by this board.

I’ve always been curious about this ‘streaky Johnson’ nickname. I’ve always taken the view that if you have players who are moderate for the division you are in you are inevitably going to have winning and kissing patches and if you get criticism for your losing runs then surely praise for your winning ones? What is the context behind the losing streaks injuries? That said you can’t explain away this season. This side at their best (and credit to Johnson for this) plays the best stuff in the league. I thought there was no way a team playing as we did could possibly go on a run like this and put in that disgraceful performance either. No extenuating circumstances either. Player wise that was a strong side yesterday. I don’t think Johnson is good tactically, I don’t think he takes into consideration opposition strengths and weaknesses very well and somehow his teams become complacent when doing well.
You're spot on about taking into consideration the other team.

He sets us up how he wants us to play regardless of opposition, sometimes (especially away from home) you have to give the opposition some respect and plan accordingly.

This squad should be beating 99% of the teams we play in this league, so losing 5-1, 1-3, 4-0, 6-0 or 3-0 isn’t acceptable. After games like that we’ll inevitably play some absolute shite and win.

People aren’t jumping up his arse when we ‘win next week’ we all want them to win and rightly enjoy it when they do.

We cannot spend a 5th season stuck in this league man. I want Johnson to take us up, but I can’t see it. 400 games as a manager he’s achieved fuck all, why would that change now? His tactical decisions are mental and the bullshit he spouts is even worse.

He won’t get the sack anytime soon, the board have given him January and like I say we’ll probably win the next 2 or 3.

Apologies for the long thread.
This season has been a mixed bag of results...huge swings and big defeats.

Yesterday feels like a watershed moment...for the most part we haven't been consistent or convincing. I don't expect to win every game, but after yesterday trust in Johnson feels totally broken. I'm dreading next week as it feels primed for a huge a justifiable backlash against him. The season could easily implode from here the rest of the league will look at this result and know we're utterly vulnerable

Played some good football at times this season but how he didn’t make substitutions at half time yesterday is beyond belief. Hoffman was miles off from the first minute and that uncertainty spread through the team. How Gooch played full 90 minutes was ridiculous as well, should have been off at HT imo, although they were all dreadful except maybe the 3 subs and Stewart put a shift in with nothing to work with.

The manager should be looking inwards as he really got all of his calls wrong and this is about the 4th or 5th time we’ve had a proper pasting which wouldn’t happen to a team realistically looking to finish top 2. He should be gone this week for me.

Not saying he should stay but '400 games and achieved nothing' is meaningless. We are in League One. The next manager isn't going to have a management career full of glory.

I can see another season in this league unfortunately. Something seriously wrong when we’re taken apart like today, and not for the first time.

My worry is how many players we lose if we don’t go up, and how big a rebuilding job it is yet again.
The players you are worried about losing were all part of that shambles yesterday so how good are they?

The next one should have a promotion or two on his CV.

The only thing all football fans have a right to is hope.

Ours is dwindling fast and only a change in manager will refresh it. That assumes we avoid an appointment similar to the last 5.

My opinion is that I was underwhelmed by his appointment. I don’t think he will be sacked just yet, I think the club will let him see out this seasons project.
We might get promoted this season likely through play offs if we do. One thing is for sure, if we do get promoted Johnson isn’t the man to lead us in a higher division. He’ll be gone before next season.

Might as well get rid now then.

Lose the lot of the players for me. They are a collective bunch of cowards.

It was a terrible result for you today but that kind of Billy Big Bollocks view won’t help you and I’m surprised it still exists after you’ve been in L1 for so long.
Why do opposition fans have this misconception that we think we were bigger and better than the rest of the league? We have ambitions to be at a higher level, there's nothing wrong with that. However, the vast majority of us will admit we're in this division because we deserve to be.

Exactly my point about his ego. I think he did partially prepare for them yesterday he thought we needed to press high which partially worked at first but then it was undone by a midfielder carrying the ball which shows how imbalanced it was

Was never inspired by Johnson appointment. But Simon Grayson had lower league promotions on his CV. As did Phil Parkinson. Doesn’t guarantee a great deal with us. I’d just like to see someone with genuine leadership qualities and a bit of a f***ing nasty streak in them to be honest so that they can set us up get into the opposition and get into our own players if they’re shirking responsibility (Joey Barton need not apply…. He’s just a ****!)

To be fair a lot of posters on here do give that impression, calling other clubs tinpot etc. I hate it when they do that and wish they’d piss off with that shit.

This thread alone has people saying we should be beating 99% of the league. Maybe it comes from that
