The happy clappers have had their time

Ok so you’re telling us all what to think, if we all fall into line what happens then? Does KLD spend loads of money and make us git good like them up the road?
Well as long as I can remember I’ve always been told just to get on with it, accept it it’s part of being a Sunderland supporter, don’t question it, don’t say/do that you’ll make us look “mag like”

So far it hasn’t worked one iota

Personally like I just want to support Sunderland. I ultimately can’t control who owns us which sadly dictates where we can finish in the league. I can’t control who owns Newcastle. I can kick and scream all I want, it won’t change any of those factors. So I try and take an objective factual approach to the situation as I see it.

Also, I am hurting today, but I think some people have an unnatural level of hatred and bitterness for Newcastle United. I feel they’re more anti-Newcastle than Sunderland. How many people turned up to our Carabao game? Next to no one. So people don’t care about us winning it.

Going back to the factors I can’t control, they have Saudi state ownership. We don’t. None of us can change that. If Mags want to get some kind of superiority trip out of it then fine, I can’t control that either. But what I will always be is a Sunderland fan who wants the best for the club.

I propose a fan wide refusal of acceptance of where we currently are. This season is probably too late to make much of a difference to what happens come the playoffs.

The minute this season ends, the fanbase as a whole should, in my opinion, leave those in positions of power in no doubt that anything other than automatic promotion next season isn’t acceptable.

We have too long gone into seasons “waiting to see what happens” imo. Managerial appointments, transfer business & on pitch results haven’t been under anywhere near as much scrutiny at they have.

I am genuinely baffled by any genuine supporter who accepts us being out of the PL for the best part of a decade.
So what does this fan wide refusal of acceptance look like? What is it you suggest we do?

I don't mean abandon the club. I'm just on about asking questions etc. I think theree a real chance we have a weaker team next season and it wouldn't go down well. It should be the case but the mags winning a trophy will also cause some unrest.
I was just basing it on you saying the fans won't accept it. The truth is the only power we have is to stop the financial support and start protesting. Even then I think you're probably just weakening the club, but some might see that as 1 step backwards to take 2 forwards.

The cup attendance point is a bit daft. We have no chance of winning it and that turns people off attending unfortunately. A large section of our fanbase simply can't be arsed with cup games or night games

I am 28. I was brought up in CLS and now live in Washington.

I’m not asking this to you specifically, but I’ve previously wondered if there’s a difference in opinion as to what’s acceptable between sunderland based fans and those from the outlying communities?
What has location got to do with it ?

You either support Sunderland or you don’t.

You see that there are more important things in life than them winning a trophy or you don’t.

See it for what it is and don’t let it ruin your life.

For the record, I’m from South Shields and hate everything about them, but I’m not going to lose any sleep over today’s result

Embarrassing post imo all just because the ***** up the road won a trophy after spending half a billion quid. Criticising a minority of people who clapped the team off in those instances even though the majority would’ve been royally pissed off. At least those people who clapped the teams off on those occasions had the balls to attend along with tens of thousands of others but unlike some of the mouthy ones on here that never bother. They’re ten times a fan of a non attender.

When I talk about clappers, I talk about the fanbase as a whole. Not just those who turned up.

I was there watching us lose on away matches in the checkatrade on a Tuesday night. I’ll always be there. That doesn’t mean I accept it.

In my opinion, too many people are happy to watch 11 lads run around for 95 minutes and go home.

There’s been nowhere near enough pressure on the club since we dropped out the PL. It started with all of our miracle escapes (before I was on here), carried on when podcasts put their own listener numbers above the clubs interests and had carried on ever since.

We’ve lost our identity as a club who should be challenging in the PL. Too many people are happy to beat Portsmouth or Luton, or draw to Plymouth and Preston, and say “the lads did well” - in my opinion.

Well my view is you can’t get upset about Newcastle winning a cup you cba to attend. If you cared you’d at the very least go.

I’ve already posted it. To start, if we aren’t promoted I think every fan should be contacting the official supporters trust (RAWA) letting them know that anything other than promotion won’t be accepted.

That way, they can go to the club with a clear mandate pointing out what the fans want.

They’re very similar to a trade union. They can only act on the will of the membership. When the membership make their viewpoint clear, they can go to the employer (or the club in this case) and present their point.

But so far your proposed actions to make change happen pretty much add up to fans shouting a bit more about how unhappy they are and maybe a strongly worded letter to RAWA man.

What would you actually DO?

its an easy get out for them, when all said and done, the truth is i think we have quite a group of supporters, who as long as we are winning games in the championship and giving them a entertaining saturday afternoon with friends and family, getting to the premier league and actually living up to our history, isn't really such a priority.
Yep have got so sick of hearing. Well we were in League One so don't complain on here.

Apathy is what got us into league one in the first place.

We did absolutely jack shit to protest and complain at Ellis Short and his bumbling approach to running a football club. I still to this day have no idea how Maggie Byrne got the job as our CEO.

We spent all that time laughing at the mags protesting all the time at Ashley for them demanding their club to not just be relegation fodder. If we'd have had some fight in us maybe things would have been a bit better.

All the fan groups that have regular conversations with the club now, where the fuck was that when we actually were in the Prem.

Fair enough you added ‘in your opinion’ at the end, because I personally disagree. Your support is admirable by the way, I take me hat off to anyone who attends. However, just because some clapped a team off doesn’t mean we aren’t ambitious or demand more. We’ve gone through managers like tap water in recent years and pretty much all that bar Mowbray has been fan led, which suggests we’re quick to shout up when it’s shite. The very fact we turn up in the numbers we do home and away as well demonstrates just how much we want this club to succeed. Pound for pound we’re the loyalist fanbase there is and that’s our identity imo.
We accept anything without real protest
Look at the carry on last season
What should we do then? We’ve had fans vote with their feet when things have gone seriously tits up. What more should we do? Shout at shops?

Clapped us out of the PL. Clapped us out of the championship.

Clapped a sunderland fan wishing Charlton fans well in 2019. Clapped them after defeats to Lincoln and Luton in the playoffs.

Critical of any fan who dares to say anything against the club. Defended the ownership after KLD was proven to have lied to the fans (those loans been turned into equity yet?)

It’s time for a bit of pressure on the hierarchy. Time for them to see that it’s not acceptable for SAFC to be plying their trade outside of the PL, and their loyal and numerous fans will not accept anything else.

This doesn’t mean change of manager, change of ownership or change of the overall business plan.

It means that our longest spell outside of the PL in history, or hoping to “find form” going into a playoff campaign, isn’t young to be accepted as acceptable.

6 times champions of England, 2 time FA cup winners, 10th in the overall top flight table, let’s start acting like it. Owners, directors, coaches, players & fans. What we’re currently seeing isn’t good enough and it’s incumbent on us all to sort the fucker out.
You’ve been a twisty little kernt since you were de-flagged, water boy.

I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous comment about his posting habits.

I’m one of the very, very few people on here who attempted to do something to help the club.

I organised the south stand display against Sheffield Wednesday in the L1 playoffs.
I pointed out that the club was in the process of redecorating the BCB in black and white ahead of the fa cup tie.
I organised the protest against giving the entire home end to NUFC.

(When I say I, I mean I was part of a small group who did something. I am in no way saying I did it all but it’s quicker to type I than list all the names)
