The happy clappers have had their time

You say that as if the miserable bastards ever shut up and stopped complaining, booing, groaning at missed passes, hurling insults at the players...

Maybe it's time you gave a chance to the idea of actually supporting the team?

They do shut up. When the team play attacking, front foot football (what I’d expect of sunderland outside of the PL) the fan base is excellent.

They get frustrated and restless when we’re negative against Plymouth or Hull in the championship.

They got relegated from the PL, had a “boycott”, Ashley invested 70m and got promoted the next season. They then ran at a profit until the takeover and will likely not be relegated for the next 50 years.

We look at our accounts and say “we lost 8 million” as an excuse to have half arsed attempts at getting promoted.

when he 'invested' 70m, they had brought in about 90m from player sales

I think people just boo out of habit now like, to the point people don’t know if the boos are being directed at the players or the ref.

Clapped us out of the PL. Clapped us out of the championship.

Clapped a sunderland fan wishing Charlton fans well in 2019. Clapped them after defeats to Lincoln and Luton in the playoffs.

Critical of any fan who dares to say anything against the club. Defended the ownership after KLD was proven to have lied to the fans (those loans been turned into equity yet?)

It’s time for a bit of pressure on the hierarchy. Time for them to see that it’s not acceptable for SAFC to be plying their trade outside of the PL, and their loyal and numerous fans will not accept anything else.

This doesn’t mean change of manager, change of ownership or change of the overall business plan.

It means that our longest spell outside of the PL in history, or hoping to “find form” going into a playoff campaign, isn’t young to be accepted as acceptable.

6 times champions of England, 2 time FA cup winners, 10th in the overall top flight table, let’s start acting like it. Owners, directors, coaches, players & fans. What we’re currently seeing isn’t good enough and it’s incumbent on us all to sort the fucker out.
What we’re currently seeing isn’t good enough and it’s incumbent on us all to sort the fucker out. How exactly? I haven't got the money and suspect you don't either.

I agree with some of what you say, we shouldn't be measuring ourselves against our worst league status and the absence of the Club from the top division for the longest period in our history is a motivator

Being civil with Charlton and Luton fans is called good sportsmanship and somrthing I would always want us associated with.

Slagging off fellow supporters with 'happy clappers' is unecessary and undermines your argument. We are all different and don't all conform to your narrow view of how to behave when supporting Sunderland. Blaming fans is a hollow argument.

Do you want the next criminal nation off the rack as owners? We just have to live with our neighbours' success but they aren't the club of their history, they are something else now end it has increasingly little to do with Newcastle United's heritage.

Embarrassing post imo all just because the ***** up the road won a trophy after spending half a billion quid. Criticising a minority of people who clapped the team off in those instances even though the majority would’ve been royally pissed off. At least those people who clapped the teams off on those occasions had the balls to attend along with tens of thousands of others but unlike some of the mouthy ones on here that never bother. They’re ten times a fan of a non attender.

I think KLD would sell the club as soon as we got promoted to the PL tbh. He's spoken before about how football is a shite investment, he just happened to get a big club at a discount because we were in L1. SAFC would instantly be worth about £250m in the PL, it's the only way he could make a decent profit.

I don't really agree with the op but don't think it's one to write off either.

The time to come back to it is in the summer if we lose in the playoffs. Feels like a big summer and one where we will see exactly what the clubs ambitions are. We will definitely lose a few players and the fans won't accept replacing them with very young players for 3/4m imo. We've spent 3 championship seasons maturing this squad and we can't just start the process again rather than spend a few quid.

For a start, we stop this woe is me attitude that we can never compete at the top of the championship because some teams have parachute payments.

Following that, we can move on and stop using the fact that we dropped to league one, or let a league one manager take us to 16th in the league, as an excuse for where we are now.
Ok so you’re telling us all what to think, if we all fall into line what happens then? Does KLD spend loads of money and make us git good like them up the road?

And I don’t think, personally, that the fanbase are instructing them sufficiently.
Well they can only act on what the membership want, as we both well know, but good luck with the rest of the thread i am out for the night, i like your passion but its going to fall on deaf ears, if you want real change i would suggest doing it away from this forum, working with the collective maybe your best bet.

It’s not the hope I’m losing, it’s the interest. I just think we are nothing more than a rich kids plaything. Something for him to indulge in when his supercars and yachts get boring.

If he was serious he would have invested massively in January and went for it.

He didn’t. Once again we have pursued the cheap option, hoping some of the turds we signed in the summer can be polished.

The writing is on the f***ing wall, we aren’t getting promoted. But still the clappers lap it up as it’s been a “good season”.

A good season for a club like Sunderland in this division is to get promoted. Anything else is failure.

just like every other club in the top two divisions.

The summer is too late, you have to renew by the end of April if you're on the direct debits.

What happens if we don’t accept it stop clapping??

What exactly are the club doing wrong that requires pressure on them? They’ve gone from us on our arse to play offs back to the premier league twice in 5 years. I’m not gonna argue they’ve made serious errors off the pitch, which have been done to death. What exactly do yu want doing so differently?

It all boils down to "show me the money". People want a sugar daddy, simple as that.

Our current owner is a 4 x billionaire, if reports are to believed. Birmingham spent about the same on a striker in league one as we’ve spent on strikers during his tenure. I’d like him to start treating the club with the respect it deserved and stop treating it as a plucky upstart like Brentford or Brighton.

I see going out of our way to congratulate clubs, less than a quarter of our size, as tin pot. You may call it good sportsmanship but I disagree.

I do believe we have far too many fans who are acceptant of our current plight. We are currently in our longest spell outside of the top flight and there seems to be no serious pressure on the club to get back to it. Instead many, in my opinion, go out of their way to make excuses for where we are.

For point 4, see paragraph 1 of my reply.

I don't mean abandon the club. I'm just on about asking questions etc. I think theree a real chance we have a weaker team next season and it wouldn't go down well. It should be the case but the mags winning a trophy will also cause some unrest.
