The happy clappers have had their time

If there was aggravation at matches in the short era when we were in the PL, why is the fanbase so accepting of where we are now?
Not sure it’s as simplistic as that. In the last 3 years we have made actual progress and are in a far better place than we were, why would the fans be kicking off in this scenario? We admirably stuck by the club in the League 1 years and smashed average attendance crowds, I’m personally proud of that and the fact I and so many others stuck by the team during those years.

We’ve then since made progress and came close to returning to the Premier League and are close again now. It’s been a bit of a transitional period in the sense that we’ve gone through a lot of change in a short space of time. I think if not much is different in the next year or certainly two, then you’d see a difference from what the fans are perceived to be accepting.

It’s not excuses, it’s context. It’s all well and good talking about league titles that came nearly a century ago but it’s got no relevance to now.

The current board started from the worst place in our history. Where we were when they came in is absolutely relevant - as is the budgets of the clubs with parachute payments. We’re losing money hand over fist year on year as it is.

By and large they’re making progress year on year (one horrific appointment aside). Everyone wants improvement, the board included, but they can’t just click their fingers and make it happen. They’re running us very sensibly at the moment and we’re getting closer to where we want to be.
Spot on.

We’ll see. I honestly think fans are happy just to plod on in this league.
And what has that accomplished?

Fuck all, because there’s an even greater number of people who are happy with where we are.

I’ll continue to say it’s not good enough. As I’ve done for years.
And thats fine. You have your expectations. Where you come a cropper is you attack other fans for not thinking the same. If you are so annoyed with our apparent mediocrity have a go at the club, not the fans who are after all, allowed to disagree with you

No he's right on point mind.

As long as Sunderland is in this division, top 2 should be the expectation. Top 1 really but I can be reasonable.
Eventually yes , but we are making progress , this team are getting better compared to years gone by , we’ve got a good manager who is having a good first season , just be realistic and stop being so impatient

Clapped us out of the PL. Clapped us out of the championship.

Clapped a sunderland fan wishing Charlton fans well in 2019. Clapped them after defeats to Lincoln and Luton in the playoffs.

Critical of any fan who dares to say anything against the club. Defended the ownership after KLD was proven to have lied to the fans (those loans been turned into equity yet?)

It’s time for a bit of pressure on the hierarchy. Time for them to see that it’s not acceptable for SAFC to be plying their trade outside of the PL, and their loyal and numerous fans will not accept anything else.

This doesn’t mean change of manager, change of ownership or change of the overall business plan.

It means that our longest spell outside of the PL in history, or hoping to “find form” going into a playoff campaign, isn’t young to be accepted as acceptable.

6 times champions of England, 2 time FA cup winners, 10th in the overall top flight table, let’s start acting like it. Owners, directors, coaches, players & fans. What we’re currently seeing isn’t good enough and it’s incumbent on us all to sort the fucker out.

You've become a right bitter kernt since you and your mates flags got stopped mind.

Were up the clubs arse until then.

You're becoming a parody account.

And that's fair enough, it's a reasonable opinion. But it's having no more impact on the results than someone saying they love it and want the model to try even more kids in the first team.

If we go up through the playoffs this season it will be fuck all to do with anything me or you have done, just the same as if we don't.

Who exactly are you wanting to see aggravation towards? You keep waffling on about being outside of the PL for so many years, neither the current owners or the current set of players can take much flak for that given none of them were involved in the original decline.

People can be realistic about where we are without being happy about it. We were an embarrassment on and off the pitch for years and it set us back massively.

Having a good young squad sitting in the play offs hardly seems like the time for this sort of nonsense.
If anything we should be uniting behind the players to get them over the line.
It seems a lot of people use the club as a vehicle to vent their own frustrations rather than actually supporting the club. Sunderland til I die n all that.

For a start, we stop this woe is me attitude that we can never compete at the top of the championship because some teams have parachute payments.

Following that, we can move on and stop using the fact that we dropped to league one, or let a league one manager take us to 16th in the league, as an excuse for where we are now.

We need to get our heads around the fact that football, and football success is just a pissing contest now, as proved by the richest club in the world having more success in the last few years than the 60 odd that proceeded them.

It’s got nowt to do with the fans that go to the game, we’re just a quaint little side show that’s expected to turn out at 8PM on a New Year’s Day with no buses or transport to get us home again.

Longest spell outside the top flight in history, most of our 10 worst seasons have came in the last 10 years.

But fans are impatient.

Expectations based on?
Irony on this board is staggering sometimes. Not saying it’s you but there’s plenty of posters that say the mag fans are where they deserve to be.

Sunderland fans want more and “expectations based on what?”

How about being the biggest club outside of the PL for a start?

Ok and you will continue to say it till we are champions of Europe. You seem to want to take a negative approach to encourage improvement.

Do you think maybe others want the same but think a positive approach might be the best thing to do to encourage improvement?

Is KLD more likely to invest because fans are shouting that things aren't good enough or because they are being positive about him and what he is doing.

It probably comes down to what you are like as an individual. Personally I perform better at work when I feel appreciated.

It comes down to the fact the club binned him off
