The happy clappers have had their time

I don't know maybe use RAWA to put pressure on the board, by sending e mails for them to pass on along the lines of, evening old bean its been 8 years now, when do you think the time is going to be right for a run to the premier league, just interested when the club think that is. simple easy and will take 5 to 10 mins of folks lifes.
Aye a few emails should do it :lol:

Get fucked man

Yep well done making the OPs point

So much of our fanbase think being 4th in the championship is the best we can hope for.

Then those that don't want that are miserable arseholes.

Were fucked as club apathy is far to rife amongst our fanbase.
Who has actually said this? Or is this just the latest phrase to be thrown at anyone taking a level headed view with where we’re at? We aren’t the only ‘big’ club to spend a bit of time outside the top flight and since 2022 we’ve been making forward steps. All we as actual proper supporters can do is continue to support the team and hope for the best.

Clapped us out of the PL. Clapped us out of the championship.

Clapped a sunderland fan wishing Charlton fans well in 2019. Clapped them after defeats to Lincoln and Luton in the playoffs.

Critical of any fan who dares to say anything against the club. Defended the ownership after KLD was proven to have lied to the fans (those loans been turned into equity yet?)

It’s time for a bit of pressure on the hierarchy. Time for them to see that it’s not acceptable for SAFC to be plying their trade outside of the PL, and their loyal and numerous fans will not accept anything else.

This doesn’t mean change of manager, change of ownership or change of the overall business plan.

It means that our longest spell outside of the PL in history, or hoping to “find form” going into a playoff campaign, isn’t young to be accepted as acceptable.

6 times champions of England, 2 time FA cup winners, 10th in the overall top flight table, let’s start acting like it. Owners, directors, coaches, players & fans. What we’re currently seeing isn’t good enough and it’s incumbent on us all to sort the fucker out.
Shit idea for a flag.

Although this is a reaction to yesterday's result there's naturally going to be more pressure on the hierarchy as time wears on and especially as they're beginning to make bigger sales. That in turn means stepping up recruitment. The fact we've also gone closer this year has raised expectations.

It's not the current hierarchy who have got us outside the PL, but as their plan to get us back develops the progression of it means it has to be gradually increased and if it isn't then pressure on them will naturally be increased.

The mags and their ownership are a different uncontrollable entity. I wouldn't worry about them.

What's a "proper" supporter?

I really don't understand what people expect Sunderland supporters to do, unless they have Elon Musk's WhatsApp number and a compelling sales pitch.

They have won a cup and we all knew it was going to happen eventually. If we'd spent £400m+ assembling our squad, I'd be expecting something similar. It's no huge achievement in that sense.

Strangely, I never mentioned them in my OP once and they were mostly brought up by people trying to lessen my point.

I think I’ve been fairly consistent with my opinion that where we are now isn’t good enough for years.

Im one of the happy clappers lol get a life mate, enjoy your life.

Our predicament is not the fans' fault. Calling for 'purges' of fans who do not sing enough, or for something non-specific to be done about supporters who have 'had their time' because they clap, is immature beyond belief.

I would actually regard myself these days as being on the grumpy wing of the fanbase: I don't trust KLD or his motives or his interest, I find Speakman impossibly smug and grating, I'm not interested in the sell on values of overhyped kids like Watson or Rigg who usually play poorly, I think RLB is out of his depth and will never get us promoted, and I find our football really boring to watch.

But the elderly people in the rows in front of me (for example) who have spent a lifetime supporting our club and who will literally clap any performances are not the problem. They are not the reason Newcastle won a trophy yesterday, they are not the reason we are not in the Premiership.

And lashing out at those kind of supporters is pathetic.

Out of interest, how many clubs not in receipt of parachute payments have made the top 2 in the last 5 years?

We used to change managers 3 times a season, happy clappers indeed.

The worst posts on here are the ones where they turn on our own fans.
exactly, it not working by sacking managers, those fans kept saying wishing Mowbray back even though we're outside the playoff and he got sacked. We're 4th in the league and people still moaning. What are you suppose to do!??

I dont know about that, as an adult i've lived in Newcastle in my twenties and now in my 30s back in Sunderland and you get just as much complaining about new developments, the same type of shops opening student accomodation etc in both. The reality is its not the complaining its just that Newcastle has had a lot more investment as a city in the last 20-30 years than Sunderland, you can go into a number of reasons why that is but the boromoter of how many people moan compared to people bigging up there city isnt one of them really. Theres now a bit of investment into Sunderland happening now so perceptions should change hopefully.

Footbal wise, people say we accept mediocrity but what can fans actually do? by and large football clubs are at the whim of the people who own them. I've had a season ticket since i was 9 years old and by and large i havent seen any fan led protest make a change, Newcastle protested Mike Ashley but he didnt budge he only sold because he got a lovely pot of gold, Manchester United protest but they havent got rid of the Glazers are still there just with Jim Ratcliffe now taking half the burden. In the championship Sheff Wed are unhappy with their owner but hes not budging, Reading had crap owners and they didnt go until they fell out the league.

I guess the point im making is i support the club because i love it and thats all i can do, if i stopped loving it i'd stop going because thats all i can do. Do i think we could do with a bit more more investment in recruitment and think the current onwership have made bad mistakes, yes. Do i think we're on the right track to get out of the league at the moment yes, that could change down the line but at the moment i feel the club is going in the right direction, abliet not as fast or smoothly as anyone would ideally like. But whether im a "happy clapper" a "doom monger" or anywhere unbetween it's just the luck of the draw what owner your club ends up with and there isnt really anything a fan can do except enjoy the good stuff, try not to let the bad stuff effect you as its out of your control and if it gets too much it might be time to give it up.
I think the protests against Ashley did ultimately move him to wanting to sell tbf. The offer for their club wasn't that big (in established PL football terms).

Assuming we don't go up this will be a huge summer for the club. We'll probably be getting some big offers for our players. So it'll be interesting to see how it progresses.

Either way I don't think we're a million miles from KLD looking to sell the club. He probably knows him and sartori don't have the available wealth to drive the club forward to the place the supporters would like to see it at.
