The happy clappers have had their time

I find it really funny how those who moan about people reminding them of the progress made in the last 4 years, go on to state we deserve better because we last won the top league in 1936….

Logic?

I think KLD would sell the club as soon as we got promoted to the PL tbh. He's spoken before about how football is a shite investment, he just happened to get a big club at a discount because we were in L1. SAFC would instantly be worth about £250m in the PL, it's the only way he could make a decent profit.
Probably our only chance of surviving tbf that he sells to some lunatic willing to spend daft money on players like the Greek fella at forest or state owners heaven forbid 😳

For a start, we stop this woe is me attitude that we can never compete at the top of the championship because some teams have parachute payments.

Following that, we can move on and stop using the fact that we dropped to league one, or let a league one manager take us to 16th in the league, as an excuse for where we are now.
Woe is me attitude? The irony 🤣

The OP is 100% correct. This season is heading to a damp fizzle.
The best chance of promotion was now, zero investment in January from KLD shows his absolute lack of ambition for the club.
The majority of fans seem happy, as where we are is an improvement since last year or from league 1.
We are the very definition of a sleeping giant, a club with immense history, 40000 crowds, a fantastic set of facilities and a premier league club in waiting.
KLD is obviously not the man for us, he has made some horrific decisions, had a hissy fit when the council made him spend money on rail seats and a new PA system, refused to install netting in front of the away fans and is now a no show at matches.
He has zero interest in the club other than to buy cheap players and sell at a profit with zero reinvestment of the profit. We are Sunderland not some tin pot club, why would you be happy with mediocrity?

Be careful, wait for the reminders we where in L1 and Will Grigg as though that is some mitigation with an owner who has next to zero real ambition for this great club to be given the very best opportunity of promotion…… January 25 Transfer Window the latest demonstration when we needed a CF, RW and LB to be brought in.

There are two ways of looking at this.
Not kicking off when we’re perennially mediocre or shit, being passive and still supporting the club in numbers is admirable.
On the other hand recognising certainly in terms of fan base and admittedly ancient history were a big club and should be expecting better and more ambitious attitude from owners is also a legitimate point of view.
Just remember this when we were first relegated in our history in 1958 we’d won more league titles than both Man United and Liverpool, we’ve since been relegated 11 times including 2 visits to the 3rd tier, only 3 top 10 finishes.Something changed with us then and I’m talking ownership onwards it’s as though something was switched off and it’s as though it was accepted we were no longer a big club, the shit just seemed to be accepted. The longer our constant mediocrity goes on I’m coming more round to the OP’s point of view especially as it’s obvious we’re losing fans let’s face it we struggle to get more than 43/44k for big games these days which is great but in times gone by would have been easily surpassed, they’re definitely having an effect up the road.
At the end of the day the ambition has to come from ownership because even if we were the most militant fans on the planet they hold the purse strings and the power, we just turn up every week.

You need to buy your way out of this division. You can’t do it on the cheap
Then more heavy investment is required to stay up.

I personally think the gap is too big between the championship and the premiership to get up and stay with the current model we have.

We blew our shot many moons ago to stay in the elite, the 2nd relegation just sealed our fate and we dropped at the worst possible time.

WE ARE 4TH IN THE LEAGUE!

What more do you want? The 3 clubs above us have been the most consistent in the league all season deserve to be there. Nothing we can do about that. The club were right to sack you off from doing the flags. You're a right miserable arsehole
Yep well done making the OPs point

So much of our fanbase think being 4th in the championship is the best we can hope for.

Then those that don't want that are miserable arseholes.

Were fucked as club apathy is far to rife amongst our fanbase.

I see a few who don’t like the op are over looking some points in his post. It’s a strange Sunderland thing, we accept shite shrug our shoulders and plod on. Contrast that with people in Newcastle, you can’t tell a massive percentage of them that Newcastle isn’t the best city in the world or Newcastle one of the biggest clubs ever etc. it’s not just football it’s ingrained in everyday life. Look at any upbeat post on Sunderland facebook page it’s always filled with moaning complainers. They moan there’s nowt in town then fuck off to Newcastle the metro centre or dalton park. We got a cinema back and the few times I’ve been back in it’s been empty again like it were the last time before the company went tits up. You see them all the time moan about the state of the town etc then don’t support new business in town when they go to the wall. I’ve always sensed that strange mindset in a lot of folk born and raised in Sunderland. I think it spreads to the football club too, can’t want better because it was worse before etc. we seem to accept low standards across the board almost reveal in it. You just have to read the posts moaning about the new development in town man from the “bent” local council etc. Contrast that with them up the road they thing their shit doesn’t stink. As much as people think people in the north east are a lot alike we are polar opposites in this regard.

I dont know about that, as an adult i've lived in Newcastle in my twenties and now in my 30s back in Sunderland and you get just as much complaining about new developments, the same type of shops opening student accomodation etc in both. The reality is its not the complaining its just that Newcastle has had a lot more investment as a city in the last 20-30 years than Sunderland, you can go into a number of reasons why that is but the boromoter of how many people moan compared to people bigging up there city isnt one of them really. Theres now a bit of investment into Sunderland happening now so perceptions should change hopefully.

Footbal wise, people say we accept mediocrity but what can fans actually do? by and large football clubs are at the whim of the people who own them. I've had a season ticket since i was 9 years old and by and large i havent seen any fan led protest make a change, Newcastle protested Mike Ashley but he didnt budge he only sold because he got a lovely pot of gold, Manchester United protest but they havent got rid of the Glazers are still there just with Jim Ratcliffe now taking half the burden. In the championship Sheff Wed are unhappy with their owner but hes not budging, Reading had crap owners and they didnt go until they fell out the league.

I guess the point im making is i support the club because i love it and thats all i can do, if i stopped loving it i'd stop going because thats all i can do. Do i think we could do with a bit more more investment in recruitment and think the current onwership have made bad mistakes, yes. Do i think we're on the right track to get out of the league at the moment yes, that could change down the line but at the moment i feel the club is going in the right direction, abliet not as fast or smoothly as anyone would ideally like. But whether im a "happy clapper" a "doom monger" or anywhere unbetween it's just the luck of the draw what owner your club ends up with and there isnt really anything a fan can do except enjoy the good stuff, try not to let the bad stuff effect you as its out of your control and if it gets too much it might be time to give it up.
