Just a counter point to that. Cattermole has played really well & has chipped in with a lot of key goals. Think he got 6-7 this year which is good for a CM. No guarantee we'd sign better (very little chance in reality) and no guarentee that the wages would be reinvested into the squad.

Yes, his ability to refuse passes from the centre halves has once again been exemplary for us this season.

Two of Catts, Honeyman, McGeouch and Leadbitter. Make room for a couple of more dynamic physical centre midfielders.

Season over so onto the next. Need to build a side that can win games & that can step up into the higher league. If we had went up this year, looking at the current personnel, we would struggle.

For me I'd get rid of the players that I wouldn't have even as squad players in the championship so

Flanagan
Baldwin
Ozturk
Loovens (out of contract anyways)
Matthews (out of contract anyways)
Honeyman

Also wouldn't resign Sterling, Morgan or Dunne on loan
Keep list.

Flanagan,
O'Nein,
Hume,
Mumba,
McGeouch,
McGeady,
Maguire,
Embleton,
Grigg (he scored 3 in 5 at one point so he has it in him)

IMO, we wouldnt miss anyone else.

He's looked a lot better than the rest of our midfielders
And he is costing us more than the lot of em put together , it’s a no brainer that we have to do everything possible to move him on , of course we will struggle at this level to sign better but his wages alone could fund the signing of maybe 6 players ?

Keep list.

Hard to argue with that list but we still need squad players as well as first teamers

You could also tell he was out the team when we won two on the trot with him in the team and then we conceded five the first game he missed.

Folk on here thinking Leadbitter is better than him is hilarious. Same folk who probably thought Maguire was better than McGeady earlier this season.
Fair comment.

Think leadbitter offers much more going forward, his set pieces alone have got a lot of assists. Cattermole is the best of the three for me.

And surely no one will have said that, but wouldn’t be surprised with this place.

And the keeper obviously

In the Guardian article at the weekend, Catts talked about his chronic hip problem.
It had seriously bothered him for up to four years before his operation in 2017.
The club couldn't work out what the problem was until some doc in the US worked out what it was.

Yet, in 2015, when he was obviously struggling with something that might well be career threatening:

We gave him a new 6 YEAR contract.

Margaret Byrne did this at the time of the Johnson fiasco and then left.
A few weeks later, she turns up as the agent of Catts.
I'd be interested in the views of someone with a knowledge of contract law.
But, something doesn't smell right about this.
We are stuck with him for another 2 years while him and his entourage continue to cash in.
Maybe it's just caveat emptor, and a symptom of the old regime, but I'd be investigating legal channels.

When I read that at the weekend my first thoughts were “I bet he has already had a phone call asking wtf are you doing?”. Wonder if his ex agent holds a grudge?;)

We don't need wholesale changes to get out of this league, but what we do need is Wyke to move on definitely, possibly Grigg, and buy two centre forwards who can score goals at this level. That will comfortably be enough to get us out this league. Without any shadow of a doubt.

Wyke and Grigg can score goals at this level

All of them other than McLaughlin, Embleton, Hume, Robson, O’Nien, Mumba and Kimpioka. If Mcgeady and Maguire want to stay they can.

The rest are a bunch of failures

Why are people saying we should keep Robson ,he has shown nothing whilst on loan in Scotland ?

GK
McLaughlin - Keep
Ruiter - Out of contract
Stryjek - Give new contract then loan out

Verdict - McLaughlin as keeper, sign a back up and loan out Strjek to a L2 club after he impressed in the national league.

RB
Love - Sell/loan out
Matthews - Out of contract

Verdict - Sign a first choice right back with O'nien/Hume capable of covering.

CB
Flanagan - Listen to offers
Baldwin - Listen to offers
Ozturk - Keep
Loovens - Sell/release

Verdict - Sign at least 1 first choice CB to replace Dunne.

LB
Oviedo - Sell
Hume - Keep
James - Renew contract

Verdict - Hume should be first choice with James there as back up.

CM
Cattermole - Move on if possible,
Leadbitter - Keep
Robson - Didn't pull up any trees in Scotland. Loan to another L1 club and bring him back in January if he's doing well.
Power - Listen to offers
McGeough - Keep (Should be a starter)
O'Nien - Keep
Mumba - Loan out for experience
Honeyman - Listen to offers

Verdict - Need to move at least 2 out. I'd like us to sign 1 athletic CM (Could O'Nien be this player)

Wingers
Gooch - Keep
McGeady - Keep
Watmore - Keep
Maguire - Keep
Embleton - Keep
Molyneux - Out of contract

Verdict - Lots of good options but we need an out and out number 10 or right winger.

Grigg - Keep
Wyke - Keep
Kimpioka - New contract and loan out to national league / L2

Verdict - Sign at least 1 new striker someone like Shankland or Norwood on a free would be good.

Ruitter, Matthews, Loovens, Baldwin, Kone, James, Cattermole, Honeyman, Wyke.

Bring in a right back, 2x centre halfs, Centre midfielder, a number 10 and a striker.
