We need 2 new first choice centre halves, a new attacking central midfielder and another goal scorer. If we don't get new Centre halves I see us having another season similar to the one that's just finished.

Of the centre halves we've got I'd probably only keep Flan. The Turk has done better of late but he still looks like a liability, he's a mistake or a penalty waiting to happen. Plus he's slower than me. If we can get rid of Oviedo and Catts do so but only for financial reasons. Catts has had a good season overall although he has been off the pace at times, including Sunday when I think he was poor. Try to keep McGeady if possible.
Gooch and Honeyman look like bang average league 1 players, if we get decent offers let them go. All those out of contract should also go.
100% agree on the turk .

We'll still have 3 left backs!

Realistically Oviedo will go too & Hume will come in and play but he was horrendous down Southend so that's another worry.

We've been trying to get Oviedo off the books for 4 windows. He himself made no secret of the fact he'd prefer to go, from the moment we were relegated from the Premiership. Either nobody wanted him, or if they did they wouldn't match his wages.

Last summer he was playing well in the World Cup - the best shop window there is. No takers.

He may go. We'd certainly let him. But I can't see clubs queuing up.

Not sure what happened for him, looked our best defender st the start of the season but somethings not quite right, has the ability though at this level.
Peterborough fans said he was generally decent but prone to a canny few fuck ups, which is pretty much what we've seen. So I'm not really expecting the fuck ups to stop.

Indeed. It's when analysing the squad you realise how much of a mess we're still in, as there's no obvious pattern to who should go and who we should be building the side around. We have older players on big wages, newer players who aren't good enough, loan players, a mixture of youth and experience, a captain who isn't up to it, some of our best players are either on big wages, getting too old or they're crocks.

So for what it's worth, I see it something like this. Players to go:
Dunne, Morgan, Sterling - all loans to return
Matthews, Ruitter, Love, Kone, Loovens, Honeyman - a mixture of contracts being up, not being good enough, wages too high or just not being part of the plans
Watmore, McGeouch - sick notes unfortunately
Cattermole, Oviedo, McGeady - either offloaded due to wages or interest from elsewhere

I expect some but not all of the above to leave in the summer. Perhaps the most depressing is that I see us keeping our centre backs and building around them. So next season I see it something like this:

McLaughlin

? Ozturk Flan/Bald James/Hume

Power Leadbitter

Maguire O'Nien ?

Grigg/Wyke
Assuming a few of the leavers will stay, add a few new recruits and that'll probably be about it.

I’d be hugely disappointed if on the opening day of next season our line up looks like that.

If the past season has illustrated anything at all it’s been glaringly obvious we lack both pace and strength all over the pitch.

Strength is desperately needed in the heart of our defence and pace throughout the side. If we don’t have at least four debutants on opening day that address those issues I’ll fear another season ending in failure.

I wouldn't be massively surprised mate. I expect to keep a number of the possible exiters that I mentioned, a couple of young lads and a few new faces and that'll be about it I reckon.

How many on here have said get rid of Cattermole? Never ever going to happen he wouldn't get a tenth of what he's on now anywhere else. Just another £4M to pay him before he retires.

One small positive that can be taken from our failure to win promotion is that we won’t be forced into drastic changes.
I’d imagine the following players will leave:
Ruiter
Love
Kone
McGeouch
Loovens
Oviedo

Oviedo’s departure alone would provide scope for the wages of four or five players so I’d imagine finding a club for him would be a priority.

Hopefully with a bit of pace and strength some of our existing players will look more effective.

Ideally I’d like our side to look like this come August 4th

McLaughlin
New RB New CH New CH Hume or James
Leadbitter
O’Nien New CM
Maguire
Grigg New CF

The defensive replacements need to be big athletic physical players who won’t be bullied, the midfield player of similar physique with a willingness to shoot and the striker a player with pace and a proven record of scoring goals.

Players like Wyke, Flanagan, Gooch, Watmore, New GK, Cattermole and Power will provide competition for places.

Who will take Loovens.

JR will be sticking with a 4-5-1 imo so wingers may be needed.

Maddison will be a good start.

Completely agree mate. I think you'll be disappointed when we line up with two of our current centre backs and Honeyman come August.

Is be seriously considering getting Watmore off the wage bill amongst the obvious ones mentioned.

25 years old and can’t stay fit. Nice fella but time for both to move on if the money can be better invested.
