It's a place to keep rubbish I can't be arsed to take to the tip. I'd like to convert into a room, mainly to accommodate shite Ive accumulated over 30 years. Has anyone any experience in doing so.
There are min sizes, ours have to be 6m x 3m now for a single.I would suggest the reason that the majority of people don’t use their garages for their intended purpose is that they’re not big enough, why don’t builders make them of an adequate size?
All new set ups are different ,i dont have that issue, two car drive and the bins have a spotThere’s no room for a car in the new-build house garage but you need a space for three wheely bins anyway and you have to move two cars off the drive at daft o’clock every two weeks or more so you can get one of the bins out for collection ( except the one week when you don’t and you leave it out overnight, but the wind catches it so it crashes into your car and puts a dint in the door).
So you get rid of one of the cars so you can at least get the garage door open and get the bin past the remaining car ready for collection. But you still have to get up at daft o’clock because there’s nowhere else to put the bins.
All because builders can’t seem to get their heads around the need for a place to put the car AND the wheely bins.
Aye ,like peoples conservatories ,we all have stuff so a garage has its useAs well as harbouring a load of shite ours is also a ‘gym’, that gets used very rarely indeed! Used to use the place as a second living room when we first got it converted but as life goes on it turned into the place where kids old toys/my old Macs etc went to die![]()

i agree a garage is a storage area but we all have stuff to go in there and i'd rather have one than not
the example above i'd pull the bins out the night before ,stand them at the garage door (i use a bit tape to tape tops down in wind ) then park your car on drive
on morning roll bins out ,drive car to work

I have the treadmill in there.....well it was there the last time I looked in 2021![]()
We also have a second fridge freezer (as the integrated one in the kitchen gets ferk all in), a tumble drier (which won't be used again till I'm a millionaire) and everything that the Mrs (£29.99) wants gone, but I can't bear to throw out just in case I need it one day....eg Old tiles from the time before the time before we last tiled the bathroom,
Would be quite handy if a meteor just hit it and I could rebuild something more purposeful without having to deal with all the tip runs
You keep your bins in the garage?
Does you garage not absolutely f***ing stink?
Accelerant and a lighter may be an option
