I thoroughly enjoyed that match, was praying for VAR to give that lass a red in injury time just for the ensuing carnage, but the ref was weak as shit.
Football was so so

Wasn't that the same ref that allowed the Jock lasses to carry out 5 minutes of shithousery before that last minute penalty?
Think she was the 4th official in this game, I did notice the useless arseclown talking to tbe managers

Their goal was not blindingly obvious. The elbow was and it wasn't consulted.

Do you reckon if she was sent off in the 3rd minute the level of shithousery wouldnt have been as bad or worse for the rest of the game? Regardless of that I agree she should have been off, I dont accept the bullshit argument about not sending someone off at the start of a game because the game has just started. Letting her off with a yellow set the tone for the match & showed the ref was weak.

Just looked on wiki, most play in countries that lack woman's football funding... Spain, france, usa, Sweden.

Cameroon against Holland
I assume lack of funding for water bottles in Cameroon can be blamed

Tbf they were livid because Lenny had promised them Volvic.

Needs immortalising in a 'thug life' clip!

I'd say its more culturally patronising. She's making it sound like they are living in some remote tribal outpost.
There’s undoubtedly a question of comparative culture and socio economic factors influencing women’s football as there is for men, which would be interesting to read about and discuss.

I wish she’d taken the time to actually do that rather than gesture towards in a vague and racisty way

Woke up this morning to read a quote from Hope Solo that quite simply belittles the growth of the ‘women’s game’:

This Cameroon team, they don't have the resources. They don't have the quality coaching in their country, they don't have the experience like England or somebody like Phil Neville.
We have to try and understand that. Perhaps they weren't even told about the rules, the laws of the game and the evolution of the game. So your heart has to go out a little bit to this Cameroon side. They played with emotions and brought this emotion to the tournament.
As much as we want to see a little bit more class from Cameroon, they did bring that beautiful emotion and packed this entire stadium. You have to look at it both ways.”

If a male had said such a thing he would rightly have been pulled for it.
It is the last 16 of the World Cup....and she is suggesting that players don’t know basic “laws of the game” like the offside rule, for instance?
Patronising at best....
And if someone had gobbed on her, I'm sure she would have just laughed it off

And she's the captain FFS

Having umpired league cricket at just below county standard (with numerous county and test cricketers involved), I can tell you that ignorance of the laws is frighteningly common, even among first class cricketers. I see no resaon why football would be different.
For example the top class players who indignantly say "but I got the ball" when pulled up for an obvious foul.

The elbow would have been on the blind side of the ref. The assistant should have been in prime positiin, but may have been focussing on the line. The var team are mostly to blame for not spotting this.

Hope Solo is a berk.

If you're expecting that kind of in depth comment from her you're going to be disappointed.

Keith Hackett was on Talksport this morning discussing the refereeing of the Engalnd v Cameroon game.

He said if a top FIFA ref had been officiating, Cameroon would have finished the game with just SEVEN players!

Here's his verdict:

Elbow = Straight red (violent conduct).

Spitting = Straight red (violent conduct).

Pushing ref = Straight red (violent conduct).

Houghton tackle = Straight red (endangering player safety).

If the ref didnt see anything then she shouldnt even have shown the yellow card. Its either a red card if you see it or no card if you dont see it. There is no inbetween yellow card for a deliberate elbow to the face. If you think something may have happened then consult the VAR replay, its exactly the sort of thing it should be used for.

The financial inequalities are undeniable, but Cameroon is an established football nation with a decent heritage. If they put forward a side who don't appear to know the rules or can't keep their discipline then the fault is wholly with their own FA.

There are some world class players on that team playing at a professional level. Even *if* some players didn’t know the rules or whatever, a good handful certainly do, yet they *all* protested, or those who didn’t didn’t seem to have any interest in correcting those who did

Interesting interpretation of 'world class'.

I doubt that they didn't know the rules either.

Neville said all the teams had been fully briefed before the tournament started.

Well among the Women’s game, ie the game they play at professional level, I’d say 3 are

The yellow would have been for the basic foul.

A basic foul is not a yellow card offence (unless it is deemed to be unsporting behaviour or there has been a succession of them & the yellow card is produced for persistent misconduct).

Again how could the ref have awarded the foul if she was blind sided & didnt see it, as you originally suggested?
