How big is this margin going to be for clear and obvious? What if someone is 1mm either side of this margin? If anything you've now created 2 lines, 1 ahead of the current offside line and 1 behind the line so potentially even more debatable decisions as current clear onside/offside would now fall near those 2 new lines.

Daylight between the players. The advantage used to go to attacking players

So what would be your cut off point, if any, for deciding offside or onside?
A foot or half a foot or so, basically anything where it's clearly obvious to the naked eye, we shouldn't need to slow it down and whip out a line to see if they're on in my rules.

Again I realise this is pie in the sky.

Aye so basically you mean move the line the width of a defender? So how would you determine if it's daylight or not without using a fixed point for on or offside like they do now?

With the daylight rules, as I've said that means the attacker could potentially stand ahead but directly in the way of the defender for a free kick, goal kick or even in general play so that a ball over the top would mean the attacker can block off the defender quite easily. Is that not why it was moved so at a free kick etc they all have an equal chance to get the ball? Why should the attacking team get the advantage?

What's if it's a foot and a half plus 1mm either way though ;)

So you agree it needs to be a line that is clearly onside or offside but what about free kicks/even goal kicks for example? I get what you are sating but that means an attacker can stand directly behind a defender and get a clear head start for a ball over the top. The way it is means they all start at the same point and is as fair as it can be.

All the attacker needs to be is a few more inches onside to make sure but if not then surely it's the attacker at fault or a defender playing a perfect offside line rather than a fault with the rules themselves?
Oh definitely not that, a previous comment somewhere clears that up it's my pet hate, my rule would only apply to cases where both players were moving and crossing over, so defending stepping up as the striker runs through (tbh mainly through balls and long balls over the top) if the player is standing offside when the move starts then I'd rule it out as offside.

My pet hate at the moment is players standing offside when the move starts but not "interfering" with play then suddenly coming alive and being involved, when they wouldn't have been able to be in that position were they not in an offside position in the first place. Think Suarez or Messi scored for Barca doing this last season, and there might have been a penalty given for Spurs when Kane got wiped out but he wasn't deemed as being involved in the play because he hadn't challenged for the ball yet despite him only being in the position to be 'pushed' because he was in an offside position.

Well fuck we're back to VAR.

I’d forgotten that show. Must be an age thing.
He’s on the next desk to her. For some reason I remembered him as having his own office. That was Betty thingy from the golden girls walking out of the door anarl.
1970-77 eh! I’d have thought it was late 60s- early 70s. Loved its Rhoda spin off. “ Hello this is Carlton your doorman”. I toyed with Carlton Your Doorman as my smb name.

Not Lou man, the other feller on the next desk to Mary.

With regard the red highlighted text, I can see what you mean and I've already mentioned this exact scenario elsewhere but you do know this wouldn't be officiated correctly and fairly?
