I predict that Rivera was there and has a good few stories to tell;)

Riveria was there and there was no story to tell .......... we didn't really know they were in there until they were jumping onto the running track. They'd set up a chant of United from halfway down the right hand side, as you looked at the pitch.

That wasn't unusual as daft Sunderland lads would often shout that to get a cheap laugh.

If they'd wanted to stand their ground there was nothing stopping them but they shouted then legged it. If they'd stayed they would've been totally battered and they know it.

Then fuc*ing hell, what was that. Shit the alarm clock, time to get up, out of my fantasy world:roll:

Look at the clips from Youtube and you'll see just how many skinhead hooligans there were.

They look more like the film you see of WW2 refugees, walking along, leaving Poland.

I was in the clockstand paddock one season and about 30-40 of them were down the front. As soon as it started filling the familiar chant of United went up followed by the usual climbing out onto the pitch. It wasn't like jumping the Fulwell though and Sunderland were on them like a pack of hounds battering the ones left in and dragging the climbers back in. They got it seriously wrong that day. One fat twat was in the middle of a tug of war and got absolutely smashed all over :lol:

Dunno why everyone is saying it was nowt, sizable bunch of fans were in the Fulwell and the United chant did go up, it wasn't like we didn't know, there were rumours for weeks before they were going in and they did.
We can't claim they are in denial on stuff when we do the same ourselves..

That's bollocks mate, there were rumours every single match and they usually came to nowt.

They were in there but there was no attempt to stand their ground. They didn't come anywhere near the middle of the Fulwell did they?

As soon as the chant went up they whacked anyone around them and legged it.

The Sunderland lads went for them but were impeded by the sons&dads trying to get away from it ............. there was a handful of Polis and nowhere near enough to get them out if they'd wanted to stay.

They didn't.

They'd sneaked in, hidden and ran just so they could say they'd been in.

I was there and dare bet the loon who wrote that nonesense wasn't. A few shouts and a stroll to the roker whilst most of RP looked on in confusion is my recollectio.

I don't know why grown adults talk about fighting with anything other than utter embarrassment.

Of course it happened , but that doesn't mean the majority of that shite isn't fiction. I was 15 at the time and directly in front of them when it happened, there was next to no punches thrown by anyone, just a big stand off. If they were that hard , they would have went in the middle of the Fullwell where the dafter lads always went.

I posted this a while back...

I was in the Fulwell that day. Soon after the kick-off, about 150 mags began chanting “United”. They were to the right of the back central section as you looked at the pitch, surrounded by a load of bemused looking middle-aged blokes and kids, who cleared away leaving them stood in a circle on their own. There was a stand-off for about 10 seconds (the red fence ran down the terrace between them and the middle section) before the police took them out, although they hardly looked reluctant to leave.

This is how I recall it.

i recall seeing a video of 'Geordies taking the Fulwell end' on youtube and it looked a pathetic attempt being fair.

all i recall really from the video was some young un starting up ructions and a copper hoisting him up by the neck and giving him a clip, may be a different occasion though as im too young

I was there in the middle and you describe it exactly as it happened but to read this thread you would think it was nowt, it wasn't, it was the only time I can remember numbers like that in our end and they got away with it.
Strangely I think that was the last game the mags could claim advantage, next time it was like a scene from zulu the number of Sunderland massed around the Roker before the match.. and nobody ever talks about that.

Says the man who, with no sense of hypocrisy, has two men fighting on his avatar

No irony whatsoever. I love fighting in the ring, with control and rules and where everyone wants to be there and it's all fun. My missus is the same and I'm pretty sure my kids will all be fighters too. But that's all about sport. That's why it's legal.

Obviously I'm talking about street fighting. Comparing sport fighting to the above nonsense is like comparing F1 driving to joyriding in Pallion.

knocky nine doors i think it was called

Reminds me of Tom & Jerry when the cat's acting big in front of the bulldog knowing 'full well' it's being held back by a massive chain ........ the Mags didn't start asking for a fight until they were on the running track with a police escort.

Just like the escort from CS to SJP last season.

Yeah I picked that up from the tiny photo ;)

Whatever it is your avatar glorifies fighting ......... they were a lot of ordinary Sunderland lads who fought the organised mobs who came to Roker Park to cause trouble.

Sunderland were never interested in being 'organised' in the early days but had to do something when the likes of Man Utd and West Ham came up with big organised mobs.

Not all of it was big or clever but some of it was and I won't deny it.

My avatar doesn't glorify street fighting.

I'd run a mile before getting involved in a street fight. In fact, me bird has been in more street fights than me.

Regardless of the fact that I was addressing what was in the OP, which was patently pre-meditated, there were loads of people who went to the footie in the 70s and 80s and had nothing to do with trouble.

I've no issue with anyone fighting back against an attacker if they're literally cornered and they're in physical danger. But lots of football hooliganism was blokes from dysfunctional families looking to belong to something and impress other lads, people just looking to fight.

The main issue I have is the people who recount the stories like it was something to be proud of. basically, if you're an adult, fighting in the street is something that you should rarely be proud of. That's a good rule of thumb!

I was drinking in Low Fell the night before that match and a few Mags showed me their Fulwell End tickets so I knew there was a few going to be in there. I was in the Fulwell End for the game, Just to the right of the Scum and as soon as the "United" chant went up they started getting kicked to fuck and legged it to the right and down onto the pitch in panic.

The full length of The Clock Stand went mental as the Scum legged it down that side of the pitch towards the rest of the Scum in the Roker End. They were absolutely bricking it going past the Clock Stand and don't let any of the lying Scum tell you otherwise.

Was the aforementioned article penned by Hans Walter Mitty Christian Anderson, by any chance ?
Yes, they were in there and they bottled it and got out as soon as they realised we realised they were there.
That's it.
