The failure of Ross

A lot of our new players last season had never played for a team as big as us before. They probably couldn't believe they were at such a prestigious club and at the start of the season they were flying and playing at their individual and collective best. They obviously are not good enough to sustain that level, especially through over 60 games in a long season, and it was inevitable the wheels would come off as we limped to the end.
Let's hope Ross has learned and that recruitment improves this time round.

The real problem seems to be the lack of long term planning by the owners, dragging a net through the transfer list then spending stupid money on an injured player in January wasn't exactly moneyball.

This new lot seem to be addressing this with a DoF which is a start but they're leaving it a bit late to bring in any players.

With that in mind I think we should keep him, mainly because there's no-one else who'll do better at this moment in time.

Some people genuinely think we have a chance of 100 points under him :lol::lol::lol: have they been in a coma since November.
We were beyond dreadful in so many games. The longer Ross got to grips with the squad, the worse we become. Power, Maguire, Gooch, Baldwin all looked excellent start of the season, all got progressively worse. We played our best football in August, we only dominated around 8 out of 46 games in the third tier. We had to rely on a excellent goalkeeper and a player in McGeady who is probably the best ever to grace the division ..... for around 20 of our points.
He came in and wanted McGeouch as his first signing, the one to build a team around, he couldn’t get a look in even though statistics show we accumulate more points when he plays compared to when he doesn’t.
He doesn’t know his best 11 and his starting 11’s each week are a hit and hope, as highlighted by drafting in Ozturk end of the season.
It’s very, very, very hard to defend. We talk about stability but what’s stable about having to change a manager 10-15 games into a season ? As that’s what WILL happen Mark my words. The change has to be made now. Doesn’t sound like it’s going to be though. 3 seasons in this division would be unacceptable, embarrassing and pathetic.

A slap because he thinks the manager we have is not up to the task? I hope you’ve got plenty of stamina as he’s not the only one, the queue will be canny long.
Honestly don’t know how people can defend him so vociferously. Must be on a wind up, or not watched us for the last two thirds of the season.

Tbh I was f***ing furious coming out of Wembley the second time, i've calmed down a bit now. I don't think he's the man for the club next season, but I am willing to give him 2/3 months to prove that the shit show he served up wasn't the real manager the club employed to get us out of the worst league we have ever played in.

That’s absolute bollocks. It’s become like a meme on here, ffs. Actually, sacking managers has saved us from the drop many times.

Bit lengthy this, but anyhoo...

Recruiting incompetent managers is what got us in league one. Every single one of our recent-ish managers, barring perhaps Poyet, has either been rightfully sacked, or left of their own accord. The only manager who looked like he might be taking us places was Allardyce. We didn’t sack him, he left. That is when things really started to go pear shaped for SAFC.

Moyes was a disgrace, nothing redeeming about his tenure, but no - despite taking us down after an utterly humiliating season, after a very decent run in the PL, we should’ve kept him ‘cos sacking managers is bad’.

Then we had Grayson. Disastrous appointment who looked like he could well be taking us down as we struggled and flapped about, no work ethic instilled in the players, showing zero signs of any shoots of recovery. We threw the dice and sacked him in the hope a new manager might save us. Despite looking out of his depth, apparently we should’ve kept him ‘cos sacking managers is bad’.

Along comes Coleman. Again, fails to motivate the team and, for only the second time in our history, we drop to the third division. Despite that, we should’ve kept him ‘cos sacking managers is bad’.

Now we have Ross. Now, it’s debatable whether he’s going to prove himself next season, I don’t know either way, but I doubt it. What I do know and what isn’t up for debate is that it isn’t sacking managers that has got us where we are, it’s the dismal appointments we’ve made. If we had good managers, they’d still be in a job. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?

All a manager has to do for now is show that they can move the club forward and learn from their mistakes from game to game. If they don’t do that, it’s just plain madness to keep them.

Great post. Nailed it.

He showed no willingness to learn from his mistakes which worries me the most. I just really can’t see things being any better at all. Some things didn’t help, Will Grigg being an absolute dud for example, the Maja scenario too but we were awful in the last 12 or so games he played in, it’s a cop out to blame that. I wonder if he brought down morale in the dressing room, something changed in November and we never recovered.

Hard to say, but in retrospect some of our home performances were an embarrassment at times for two thirds of the season. 'But teams raise their games against us' was the line trotted out as an excuse. Utter f***ing chod wallop, we just played like a team scared to take the game to the opposition at home, it was pathetic given the talent on the pitch and resources available.
