The Failed European Social Experiment.

Hard to know what to do about it.

Short of building Gaza-style walls around countries, you can't stop people coming into a country illegally. And getting them out costs a big pile of money.

There's no easy solution to illegal immigration, nor is it really possible to blame anyone for it.
Squarely at Blair and the rest of the liberal elite of Europe.

They obviously aren't genuine asylum seekers otherwise just reaching Italy would have got them out of any danger they supposedly faced, they're chancers and economic migrants and once the Italians provided them with the paperwork they needed to travel within the EU they were on the first train out.

This assumption is correct, but what would you do in a similar situation? I would be hawking around all over the shop looking for the best possible return I could get, it is human nature.

Wasn't that the EEC and not the federal state of Europe where pen pushers almost achieved where Hitler failed?

Fine by me, let's take back Normandy and let them see how they push on immigrants to us then.
we could have the aircraft carrier on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the French could have Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays and we'd spin(best of 3) for Sundays
should work

We're a huge export market, Germany's biggest, so I doubt they'd stop us from taking advantage of the trade side (which is beneficial) and opting out of the political EU. It's worth doing that just to get out of the jurisdiction of the ECJ and the human rights court.

we were sold this lie on the back of a trading agreement nothing more

there'll be no women amongst the tunisians.. they'll all be men of fighting age that are f***ing off with the aim of getting a fat stinker pregnant for a passport..

I'd be out of it in a shot.

I really can't see what social benefits we get out from it.. we are a huge net contributer.

It would allow us to tighten the freedom of work within the EU. many british may find it tougher to work withn other countries but so be it.

It may weaken exports but then it could be counterbalaced by making it harder for other countrieas to import into the Uk thereofre strenghtening home markets

The wankers that were all for the political union rather than the economic union which was the idea sold to most of Europe.

That's pretty much my interpretation of events.

I sincerely believe that there are real dangers ahead unless there is some sort of radical reform of the EU to return power to nation states. Disenfranchisement (is that a real word?) can lead to resentment, and ultimately civil unrest. Europe has a long standing tradition of settling disagreements with warfare and history has a nasty habit of repeating itself - 1920's = boom, 1930's = depression / recession, 1940's = war. We're in the middle phase again now - we need to be wary of where we go next.

Either that, or tighten up existing EU laws regarding migration between countries and immigration into the EU.

As the EU expands, so does the gulf between the richest and poorest country. Romania, for instance, will not benefit from their young people leaving en masse, nor will the countries that must absorb them. The current rules do a disservice to all countries within, and it's within the powers of the EU to amend the rules.

can you believe that there is a political will in this country and others to include turkey in the EU ffs, that could be the ignition point perhaps

I think the introduction of other nation states should coincide with a tightening of the rules. The EU wants to be as big as possible, which isn't necessarily an issue, but the rules within need to reflect it.

It's getting f***ing ridiculous, what possible benefit did the EU get from allowing Bulgaria and Romania to join? Poland was bad enough, the only thing these countries export is people and I bet the African immigrants have no f***ing desire to go to these places however much free movement there is within the Union.

here's one for you

on his death bed lord mcalpine spoke of the the EU rebate that thatcher secured for the UK , basically it was a bribe to the UK in order for it to stand by and not interfere in the gradual creation of a united states of europe

African immigrants do not have free movement within the EU.

The example in the OP is Italy not taking responsibility for their own asylum seeking problem, hence France barring their entry and bringing Italy to task.

I agree that free movement of EU citizens becomes more of a problem as the EU gets bigger though. I suspect that's really what the Lisbon Treaty was all about - streamlining the process of changing EU rules without endless referenda.

Doesn't surprise me. For all their empty rhetoric, UK governments have always offered no obstruction to the EU.
