Its always good to see Wenger fuming but i agree with him on this one. They seem pointless. Couple of incidents during the Arsenal match tonight the goal line official was in the best position to make the call, but done nothing.

Ive watched a good few game with them involved and they seem reluctant to make even the most simple decisions like goal kick or corner kick.

What is the point of them and is it true they have a flashing stick they can hold up to signal to the ref? Because ive never seen one used yet.

What is the brief of these officials, is it just to see if balls have crossed lines or are they asked to do more?

I was wondering the same.

The ball deflected out for a corner kick tonight but the ref gave a goal kick. The goal line fella was stood about 3 feet away from the incident but didnt do a thing. Just stood like a gonk and let them get on with it.

The stick that they have is a buzzer to attract the referee's decision, they are all miked up and are told not to make signals. Their jurisdiction includes any incidents in the 18 yard box as well as goalline decisions if they are better placed than the assistant referee.

Pretty sure it would be cheaper to install cameras and have the forth official work along side the ref.
