How about the 41.000 that went on a miserable dark damp wed night in f***ing december ? best fans in the land stop whinging about early leavers midweek ffs...

As an adult, I never understand this complaint. People who have paid an excessive amount of money to sit outside on a December evening and watch their team defend for 85 mins, somehow are forbidden from leaving the stadium until the match finishes. It might just be the case, for some people, that seeing the last 5 minutes of a match isn't more important than adding 30 minutes onto their journey home.

I gave up my season ticket last year (which I'd had for 20 years) and when I was a kid I'd see people leaving early, and then we'd leave early and I'd asking the same questions 'why'? I digress, back to last season (or the last 2 or 3 tbh). My grandad lives in South Hylton, I live in Lanchester. He can't walk well, so if I leave the stadium when the game finishes, it takes 3 times as long to get out of the ground, and 3 times as long to get the park and ride. It then takes longer in traffic when I get back to the car, to drop him off and get home. By staying an extra 5-7 minutes at the end, I'm adding about 30 minutes to my journey home, and making an old man who can't stand very well, wait in a freezing bus queue for much longer.

Sometimes there are just far more important things than watching 11 men barely touch a ball for 5 more minutes. Even when people don't have a reason for leaving early, they don't need to justify themselves to anyone. They've paid their money, haven't they?
That fair enough but good times at Sunderland are very rare and when they come it is often a late goal that brings it. I can't believe it makes 30 minutes for many people. There were thousands leaving with 5 minutes left and we nearly equalised. You've made all the effort to get to the match and I bet leaving early makes no more than 5 minutes difference for many. I just dont get it and it does affect the atmosphere. It was really terrible last night and, as I said, I doubt it made much difference what time some of those leaving get home.

This post alone should end this pathetic craic on here about early leavers. Personal choice, no concern at all of anyone else. Nail on the head, bravo.
Not at all, it spoils the atmosphere. Additionally, I dont believe it makes much difference to most how quickly they get home. We are 1-0 down against Chelsea and nearly scraped a draw in injury time - those sort of moments are what we put up with the 85 minutes of miserableness. It is personal choice but its bizarre - couldn't believe it last night, it was terrible.

Suppose it's up to the individual, but I couldn't stand to miss a second of the action - the tension and then the fact we came so clsoe to a last minute equaliser is what football is all about for me. Understand people have their own reasons, but those leaving just to get ahead of the traffic is bizarre for me. Hey ho, each to their own. decent performance last night

Well said, a lot of people can relate to this. If the game is exciting I will quite happily add that extra time onto my journey, at the moment though, I am so disenchanted with Sunderland I don't see the point. Yesterday was dyer. What happened to SAFC going at big teams and trying to put them off their game?

So if it was exciting you'd stay till the end? Maybe you should question why you go? I dont see how leaving 5 or 10 minutes makes a difference - you, no doubt, get home 10 minutes early. The last 5 minutes tend to be better than the rest of the game, as it was last night. This leaving early is far worse than it used to be and its annoying, it looks rubbish and affects the atmosphere.

I am totally questioning why I go, why I spend and have spent the money I do to feel shit on as a fan. Simple answer is I love them. Paying gives anyone the right to do what they want IMO.

I'm not exactly what the point of supporting your team, until the end is, but the people who leave early are totally missing it.

It's a little sad but I watched football during times when things were much different and, yes I'll say it, much better.

Early leavers are missing out although, because of their entrenched 'me me me' attitude, they'll never realise.

No worse than those that turned uo 5 minutes into the game - twats.

Or those that left early to get a pie and pint at the end of the first half - twats

Or those that took 20 minutes to have their half time shit so came back after it'd kicked off again - twats.

Find something better to winge about man.

When was the last time you went to a game?

Of course they have a right. However, last night we played the leaders, the best team in the league. We created the 2 best chances of the second half. It was 1-0 and we nearly snatched a draw but for a fantastic save by their keeper. If we were 4-0 down fair enough but we had a chance - that's why I couldn't believe how many left 10 minutes early. Its far worse than ever before and I just don't get it. Of course its your right but it is annoying for those who stay and threads like this will continue.

This and also the fact that I was trying to watch the game and I had my view impaired by the people going down the stairs.
I also think it has a negative impact on the atmosphere.

They simply don't care mate, sorry but it's true.

They've paid their money and they are entitled to do whatever they like, they know their rights ...... if not their responsibilities

Not bothered at all about what other people do when it doesn't affect me,I've more important things to think about.

Does not add to the atmosphere, but then neither do the team or managment.

If you pay your brass you make your own choices, and nothing wrong in that.

Of course it does make some look better martyrs than others, perfect fodder for this board.

it's now a habit for many people, plus a lot have no confidence in the team once we go a goal down...sad really...

I wish a lot more would go early, it takes ages to get down the stairs on the final whistle from the back of the South Stand

Not getting entertained, leaves to more people thinking "fuck this, rather get home earlier ". Last night was a training exercise so I see where most are coming from.
