3-5-2 would surely suit usWatford play 4-4-2, they're doing alright. Arsenals invincibles played it. Man Utd treble winners played it.
I think we could play it or 3-5-2, any formation that plays 2 strikers would be a start.

John o’hare on bench?Spot on, Robertson had his own problems with drink iirc but Cloughy kept faith with him, didn't he drop Archie Gemmill in the final in favour of Robertson who went on to play a blinder? Made Francis the first £1m player then stuck him in the team for the final, can't remember the lad that got dropped, for Francis to score the winning goal.
I'm becoming one of the old farts on here but football seemed so much more enjoyable back then. It's all touch football today, a no contact sport
I’d never heard of bob houghton the malmo manager in 1979/80. Mates with Roy hodgson apparently.I'm becoming one of the old farts on here but football seemed so much more enjoyable back then. It's all touch football today, a no contact sport![]()
Crikey forgot all about Houghton, had to check online.I’d never heard of bob houghton the malmo manager in 1979/80. Mates with Roy hodgson apparently.
See he managed in 10 different countries in a career spanning over 30 years and finished off as manager of India winning a challenge cup in 2008.I’d never heard of bob houghton the malmo manager in 1979/80. Mates with Roy hodgson apparently.
But nobody knows when or where he was born!See he managed in 10 different countries in a career spanning over 30 years and finished off as manager of India winning a challenge cup in 2008.

With the greatest of respect whenever we start to struggle Sunderland fans shout for 4-4-2. Every single time.
I understand the relative success we had was with that formation but it is OUTDATED.
Very few teams play it, Atletico Madrid and Burnley come to mind. We don’t have the players, McGeady can’t play in a 4-4-2 and you need two box to box midfielders.
It’s NOT the answer.
Have not seen many calls for it. However, I have seen calls to scrap a negative approach to games with 2 holding, defensive midfielders. Get a 10 closer to our striker is a main priority too.
