The cry for 4-4-2

I don't get the McGeady bashing (not saying you are doing this in your post) as he is our most creative player by miles and his record of 8 goals in 21 games this season is excellent for a winger. 15 in 50 games for us isn't too shabby either
Not disagreeing. Maybe he's better off on the right, which might encourage him to go down the outside to put a cross in, rather than constantly coming inside.

Think starting grigg and o9 will make a massively difference. Also mcgeouch needs to start for me, we don’t control the game enough for a team pishing for automatics promotion and he helps control the ball.

With the greatest of respect whenever we start to struggle Sunderland fans shout for 4-4-2. Every single time.

I understand the relative success we had was with that formation but it is OUTDATED.

Very few teams play it, Atletico Madrid and Burnley come to mind. We don’t have the players, McGeady can’t play in a 4-4-2 and you need two box to box midfielders.

It’s NOT the answer.
Well Mr Football Manager 451 with no support for a solitary striker is working great isnt it?

As Clough or Shankly said football is a simple game made complicated by idiots.

If you want to win games and be top of the league which we do in Div 3 you need to score goals.

couldn't care less what formation we play its JR's insistence on playing two holding midfielders that's the problem. i can possibly understand it away from home against the better sides but it's every single game

absolutely criminal if 09 doesn't start tomorrow night but for whatever reason Max Power has seemingly become untouchable

Agree.
For me we only need one holding midfielder, Leadbitter or McGeouch. O’Nein should be in the side, he’s the only lad who looks like supporting which ever striker is up top on his own.
Pretty much spot on, only 1 holding midfielder needed, we need the others further up the pitch to support the lone striker as we rarely win any second balls up there

Quite the opposite we dont have the players to play the system ross is intent on playing. This system relies on support from wingbacks/midfield, something we simply dont have the personal for or they cant be bothered. Plus being able to pass a ball 2 yards helps. This outdated 442 bollocks makes me laugh everytime i hear it.
Disagree. Matthew's is an attacking dull back and so is oviedo ... Ross is just intent on playing James.

Agree, it's a very simplistic response and is unlikely to work

I think 4-4-2 has just become another name for we need more attacking options.
Not so much about the rigid formations, but more about players intent to get up and join in with the lone striker, making two or three when we need it.
That and ability for the players with that bit extra to make it pay - like McGeady vs Wimbledon.

Have you got pace in the team?
Formations surely are put in place with the disposal of the players that you have.
No good thinking of Quinn and Phillips for the sake of it if you don’t have effective players to make it work.

You can be successful with a variety of formations. I don’t think the formation is the problem, it’s the way the team is being instructed to play that is causing us major issues.

I think it doesn't matter what combination of players or formation Jack puts out we will have the same old story with a couple of shots on goal. Think we need more fluidity to our play and try and create or help a teammate score a goal . Possibly need a midfielder supporting the striker when they get the ball.
