With the greatest of respect whenever we start to struggle Sunderland fans shout for 4-4-2. Every single time.

I understand the relative success we had was with that formation but it is OUTDATED.

Very few teams play it, Atletico Madrid and Burnley come to mind. We don’t have the players, McGeady can’t play in a 4-4-2 and you need two box to box midfielders.

It’s NOT the answer.

Who gives a fook how we line up, we're static, ponderous and have nee intent.....
We need some zip and purpose, get up the pitch and start peppering the white oblong thing....

It's interesting that they still do that as every time we play 442, and it's not uncommon to change it to that, we look shit.

Agree.
For me we only need one holding midfielder, Leadbitter or McGeouch. O’Nein should be in the side, he’s the only lad who looks like supporting which ever striker is up top on his own.

This. Also with James we are very limited.

When Oviedo plays it frees up McGeady as he’s willing to go beyond and is a threat.

James is good, but limits McGeady.

Agree with this also.
McGeady is the prime example, he’s clearly head and shoulders above 99% of this league. But he’s receiving the ball too deep and slows up any counter attack when he does.

We need to be playing higher up the pitch.

Have not seen many calls for it. However, I have seen calls to scrap a negative approach to games with 2 holding, defensive midfielders. Get a 10 closer to our striker is a main priority too.

This is the big one for me. 1 DMF in front of the back 4 instead of 2. Im convinced it will unlock the attacking potential we have.

You would like to think so mate. Four supporting Grigg would make a huge difference

Aye James has done well since he came in, but is limited.

End of the day Oviedo is a 40k a week international footballer. He should be starting.

Mcgeady's frustrating though, how many times do we want to beat the full back.....Wykes Bern poor but knee Fookin service....

This for me, we need a bit more and to up the pace and to go at teams, James hasn’t done much wrong but we need more.

Oviedo has the technical ability needed to win games.

2 holding midfielders doesn't change that the 3 behind the striker aren't offering enough. Even with 2 mor disciplined, that leaves 3 behind a striker and the 2 full backs pushing on. That's plenty to make something happen still.

I don't agree with the 2 defensive midfielders talk to be honest. Neither Power nor Leadbetter sit in front of the defence.
I agree with you, not saying it's something we shouldn't look at or I'd be against, but it's the 3 in front that need to be offering more going forward in creating chances.

I'm not sure, it all just seems a bit disjointed with the reliance of a winger winning the game.

I don't think it would be difficult to change it to something the fans would prefer in style but not sure if results would get better.
