The centre backs today

We are building something interesting and exciting, and in a financially sustainable manner.

Today, two young centrebacks got a full 90 minutes, looking stronger towards the end, Rusyn looked good and Mayenda came on and looked a handful.

Happy with this.
‘Hashish’ too.

Don’t think anyone did with their goal tbh, Ekwah lost possession which happened I dunno how many times, Neil let the runner go right past him without tracking, Triantis was dragged out when really Hume was there covering, then Seelt should have realised sooner the runner wasn’t tracked.

By that point he was unmarked and had an easy shot on goal. They’ll all learn from it.
Great post. Agree with all of it.

Loved the Patto pass out to the one who was walking away and not watching.*

* I have nee idea which was which and I suspect neither did a large % of the crowd. Mind I’m still trying to figure out who’s who amongst the short haired baggy shorted bunch who took the field against City in the first proper game at the SOL.

I would much rather see us playing a pair of young players than going back to the days of seeing Alan Stubbs jogging around for us at the back

Taking a +ve from today, the two fledgling CBs only messed up seriously once.
My worry is that I cannot see how we can afford to let them both to learn on the job, other sides will tear them apart.

If they take turns playing with Ballard they can build up some experience without committing too many howlers.

They messed up seriously a few times to be fair, but they’re starting together for the first time

Exactly, first half they are bound to be nervous and make a few errors, they are just kids!!!

Second half after they settled in they were fine. Triantis won everything in the air, Seelt passed the ball well.

Either beside Ballard is an improvement on what we've had this season.

Well then your agenda is clouding what you're seeing on the pitch. They were both poor. They looked slow and cumbersome and questionable positionally. This cumulated in their goal.

And like I've already said, I won't be "jumping on anyone else's case" because they haven't been sniping at Mowbray for the past few months.
Their goal was virtually nowt to do with the centre halves and almost all down to Ekwah and Neil.

Aye mate, I think we are a top 10 team but not convinced we are a top 6 team. I know people will disagree but IMO we haven’t improved our starting XI since last season, only Bellingham has come into it.
I think there’s more growth there, though. We’ve only changed one player, but the growth in Ballard, Neil, Ekwah and particularly Clarke is a big offset. Patta too has gone up a level this season imo. What also sits in our favour is that we should have a reasonable expectation that the squad will grow further as we move through this season. I’d defo back the current crop to finish the season stronger than they started. From there we’ll see where it carries us - but if we can stay fit we'll go into the playoffs in decent nick I think.

It's communication. A game like that yesterday - forced into playing two young debutant CBs at the same time - is where the experience of Corry Evans would be vital, so he can talk them through the game. We're not going to get the same from Neil or Ekwah yet, although Neil is improving in that respect.

Agree with this
