The case for Steve McClaren

You can add to that that he has been successful with a team who many of will have spoken a different language to him

It is a no brainer

of course it is. but this is modern day Sunderland

Of all the names being mentioned, I think Schteve would be my choice. His time at Boro was a huge success, and you wont get many of their fans saying his football was boring either, despite what GK is saying on this thread. He went to Twente and won the league for the first time in their history, really causing an upset in that league. It didnt really work for him at Wolfsburg, but then he was only given 5 months and never really had a chance to make his mark.

His second spell at Twente is nowhere near as bad as GK will have us believe.. finished 6th in his first season, and in total won 31 of his 64 games before RESIGNING.

At Forest, he had a very poor relationship with a very messed up board, and he walked out on the job.

Time for some clear thinking, we are not trying to win the league, just a few games, the squad is good enough, they need cajoling, a common cause and a bit of confidence.

totally agree with you.[DOUBLEPOST=1380057059][/DOUBLEPOST]

6th in holland is abysmal and he was rightly fired. Oneill is a far better manager and his teams play a more dynamic football. And we hated that.

Mclaren would be a disaster and our crowds would tumble.

If you think that MoN's football is/was more dynamic than Schteve's then you are beyond reasoning so im not going to bother discussing it with you.

We played dynamic football under O'Neill? Must've missed that like.

Eyeing up McClaren feels a bit like getting towards the end of the night and realising all the good looking lasses have copped off and pissed off home so you're left with the fat ginger lass who's been sitting on her own for the last hour. But maybe we have become that desperate drunk. Especially as the last one was a f***ing psycho

Is this:
He has built an excellent reputation as a first team coach. Read comments from any of the Man U players he was involved with if you need reassurances. Good tactician and organiser who earns his money on the training ground rather than the press room - exactly what we need

His age and experience. Successful spell with boro, never took them down and took them not only into Europe but to a European final. Yes, boro. The England thing doesn't bother me, in act he's probably a better coach/manager for the experience. I also don't think he'd be taking the job to further his career, buggering off at the first opportunity of a more attractive (southern based) job. RDM and GP probably would.

I think he'd 'get' safc having lived and managed in the north east. I wouldn't underestimate the benefits if this. We really need stability, 5 years minimum with the same guy. It's 50% likely we will go down this season while there has to be a chance short and the Italians will fuck off within the next couple of years. Mclaren could potentially steer us through this IMO.

He isn't tony Pullis.

it seems like we are at that stage to be honest.
