The case for Steve McClaren

His last 4 jobs
England - humiliated both himself and his country - sacked
Bundesliga - sacked within 6 months
Fc twente - sacked within 5 month
Forest - sacked within weeks

the forest thing was a bit of a fuck up for all concerned though, wasnt quite the open & shut case some think when the new owners came in (who are on PDC's wave length by all accounts).

I think Hoddle would be a much better appointment. It was Rio Ferdinand who recently mentioned that Hoddle was by far the best England manager, in terms of tactics, of all the Managers he has played under.
Steve McClaren has had more failure than success. But I cannot disagree that he's a better bet than most of the suggestions currently on offer.

Not meaning to imply you mention anyone in particular because I know you haven't picked anyone out in particular. But let's be honest. Look at the one's out there with the bookmaker's like Pulis, Poyet and Di Matteo. You back any one of those and you are not backing anyone special or good.

For the record I couldn't give a fook either so long as they win games and get us competitive. But come on, don't ridicule the suggestion of others if you can't offer anything less than an equally stupid one yourself.
Ohh so you admit trappatoni was a stupid suggestion then

Ive already told you lot it going to him now kindly fuck off

Is this:
He has built an excellent reputation as a first team coach. Read comments from any of the Man U players he was involved with if you need reassurances. Good tactician and organiser who earns his money on the training ground rather than the press room - exactly what we need

His age and experience. Successful spell with boro, never took them down and took them not only into Europe but to a European final. Yes, boro. The England thing doesn't bother me, in act he's probably a better coach/manager for the experience. I also don't think he'd be taking the job to further his career, buggering off at the first opportunity of a more attractive (southern based) job. RDM and GP probably would.

I think he'd 'get' safc having lived and managed in the north east. I wouldn't underestimate the benefits if this. We really need stability, 5 years minimum with the same guy. It's 50% likely we will go down this season while there has to be a chance short and the Italians will fuck off within the next couple of years. Mclaren could potentially steer us through this IMO.

He isn't tony Pullis.

Good post. There's others I'd prefer especially OGS. But we could do far worse than McClaren, way ahead of Pullis, Hoddle if we're going British route. Managers with more impressive CVs have failed with England.

He did very well for us.

Kept us up every year he was there.
Won our first ever trophy
Qualified for Europe through winning the Carling Cup and one year through our league position (7th)
Took us to a European Final.

His style of football was a bit dour at times but I have nothing but great memories of his time at Middlesbrough.

That was eons ago and hes done well once since. Hes failed far more than he succeeded.

Oneill is a much better manager and we got rid of him. Everyone's hated how dour we were. Mclaren makes him look like a proper livewire.

That's about the only argument in his favour for me Turnip.
