The case for Steve McClaren

From Paolo to Steve; it's liking having a fling with Marilyn Monroe and marrying Ann Widdecombe.

This.

We need a Ann Widdecombe. Maybe not fashionable or popular but has a good head on there shoulders and be able to get their point across. Not a Marilyn Monroe who looks good on the eye but deep down has some serious issue which resulted in her downfall.

There's a difference between a manager and a coach. McClaren is a good coach and that's what we need. I'd be happy with him for the short term and review the whole set up in the summer.

So who...?
If we're going down the has beens of mclarens ilk then hoddle would be my choice as he has the teams set out to play a certain style. The style is very similar to what di canio was trying to instill, however the formation wouldnt be as naive as he likes a five man midfield.[DOUBLEPOST=1380009167][/DOUBLEPOST]

What makes you think hed be a good head coach. Not first team coach, head coach.

I'm ok with him. A safe option - a head coach with experience of both English and continental football management.
We could do worse by appointing Poyet or Ince.

The case for Jarvis being permabanned from here: Continues to create new threads on existed topics, which he has already posted on.

McClaren would be depressing. How long do you think the fans would put up with negative, spoiling "tactics"?

I certainly wouldn't consider his time with the smogs a success. They mostly struggled in the bottom half, despite having some decent players. Gibson poured a fortune into the club and got fook all back. When he was finally "poached" by the FA, loads of smoggies were happy to see the back of him.

I agree with Jarvis  . People seem to think we'll get someone with a spotless record. Don't forget Reidy had been sacked by Man City before he arrived here.

McClaren is far from perfect but to be honest we're hardly Manchester United, it sounds as if even Poyet might be unsure about joining us and hes done next to fuck all in management, and Di Matteo is very likely to wait and see what else comes up. If even out of work managers are unsure about taking the job then we have to accept that whoever we get will have some flaws. Personally I think McClaren is worth another shot in the prem, especially since he would seem to fit in well with the head coach vacancy. We'd all love it to be someone better/ more exciting but who is there? We need stability and, imo, a bit of experience (this isn't the kind of squad or pressure for a Solskjaer type with no PL experience). McClaren is definitely worth an interview anyway, Short should see what he has to say

Given the current list of possibles a fair point by the OP and probably the best of an un-desirable bunch ( McLeish FFS !
But with the bias of Italians ( assuming they haven't all walked ) at the club Zola would be an interesting appointment.

Is it? he won the Dutch League with an unfashionable team not that long back.
And then got sacked of wolfsburg,
had to resign from twente on his return
and got the chop at notts forrest, is now a coach in the championship.

Ha way man, may aswell have kept f***ing bruce or oneill.

He hasn't managed top flight English football since 2007. I'd say that if you've been away from the EPL for that long and at his age you are finished as a credible manager in the premiership. He couldn't cope with the Championship at Forest and resigned after 10 games and rumbling about not getting the loans/signings he wanted. Hardly great fit for Di Fanny & Co.

If he could get Middlesborough to win a trophy for the first time ever and play reasonably in Europe he could shine for Sunderland with our resources.

Stopped reading.

i think he'd be fine for us[DOUBLEPOST=1380007652][/DOUBLEPOST]
well he won the league cup with boro, they were very lucky but also got to the uefa cup final, England and forest is a where he really failed but won a few titles at twente I think.

He just looks dull as dishwater
The boro fans hated him-during that european jaunt they twice came back to win from three goals down.It was only because the tactics went out of the window and they threw caution to the wind.
