The Brazilian Ronaldo

His goal scoring record was out of this world

1993–1994 Cruzeiro 14 (12)
1994–1996 PSV 46 (42)
1996–1997 Barcelona 37 (34)
1997–2002 Inter Milan 68 (49)
2002–2007 Real Madrid 127 (83)
2007–2008 A.C. Milan 20 (9)
2009–2011 Corinthians 31 (18)

Don't actually remember those stats but remember watching him with the same WTF reaction you had to all of those footballers who consistently excelled at the highest level.
So many times teams would hit him on the half way line and his first touch both controlled the ball and put it past his defender.
Then ran half the length of the pitch with the ball at his feet keeping the chasing defenders at bay then stroked the ball past the keeper.

Phenomenal physical and footballing ability from the bucktooth footballer.

Really? Genuinely interested in your top ten

Well tbh I hadn't actually thought of ten, it was just a figure of speech, but as you've called my bluff, off the top of my head and choosing genuine centre forwards - target men - of (more or less) my era (eg I never saw Nat Lofthouse or Stan Mortensen), in no order:

Didier Drogba
Luigi Riva (childhood hero)
Christian Vieri
Gerd Muller
Ivan Zamorano
John Charles
Cristiano Ronaldo
Zlatan
Pele
and for entirely partisan reasons, Cloughy

The Brazilian Ronaldo may have been as good as some of these but for, relatively, a very short time.

I think you’re underestimating how long he was class for

The Brazilian, at his peak, was much better than most of them tbf

Ronaldo thin
Messi
Marradona
Eusebio
Pele

There you go. Off the top of my head. Ronaldo fat was a quality player but everyone’s entitled to an opinion

Can I ask how old you are ? An important factor in this debate I reckon.

My Granda insisted it was Eusbio or Van Basten like.

I'd say Ronaldo is the second best Brazilian player of all time after Pelé. If Ronaldo didn't get those bad injuries when he was at Inter he'd been the best of all time. He had the speed of Messi and the power of Cristiano Ronaldo. But was a better finisher. He also did it at 2 World Cups and got 8 goals in 2002 alone!

@JC22

Brazilian Ronaldo when at his best (was for a short period, granted) was better than Messi, Christiano etc

@JC22

It really is a shame that the premier league age of football fans will never know how f***ing brilliant he was.

It really is.

Messi needs to win a World Cup to be GOAT.
Can Cristiano Ronaldo carry his nation to a World Cup?
No and No.

Ronaldo won 2 World Cups. Scored 8 goals in 2002 win it for Brazil.

The Real Ronaldo:cool:

Brilliant player

The best Brazilian player in my lifetime

Can't agree. Pele is head and shoulders above anyone. Playing in an era when kicking lumps off opposition players was fair tactics. Imagine him with the protection that the likes of Ronaldo and Messi get.

Only saw him play once, when he was a kid for PSV v Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA cup in 94, I saw the second leg in Eindhoven, Ist leg in Germany finished 5-4 to Leverkusen with Ronaldinho scoring a hat trick.
2nd leg finished 0-0 and Ronaldo did nowt and I mean Danny Graham nowt. Was a German master class in how play out a 0-0.
Still was entertaining with the German fans kicking off all over the stadium during the match and then the PSV firm trying to storm the players entrance after the game.
Marvellous player, never been so excited about possibility of watching a true great in the making, never been so disappointed in a single performance.

Opinions opinions !

Best centre forwards i've seen live were Bergkamp, Henry, Shearer (yes), Gascgoine, Lineker, van Basten, Weah, Drogba, van Nistelrooy and strangely enough Phillips (just sheer class at finishing, you almost knew he would score, the sign of a master technician despite only playing for measly SAFC, he was top, top quality)

Rockys posts suggest he wasn’t born until long after pele stopped playing.
