We did get Khawaja when we shouldn't have TBF. The Clark Smith partnership then killed us (and Broad had Smith stone dead, as you allude to).

To let them get (with the aid of bad umpiring) from 129-3 to 343-3 cost us big time.

KP was out there is they'd reviewed it. :lol::lol:

Agreed, compare the attack now to 2005, you'd swap Swann for Giles, probably Anderson for Hoggard but that would be close. The rest of the bowlers at the minute wouldn't get a look in over Flintoff, Harmison and Jones.

That's the aim now and it's not a million miles away at the moment. Another 138 runs and the Aussies have to bat again, which instantly adds a couple more sessions to the game. If the predicted rain comes it's going to take one hell of a performance from Australia to win this. It's a cracking test though. Just wish I wasn't at work today.

Agreed.

132 more runs in this innings to retain the Ashes. Survive the follow on and with the weather, I just don't think the Aussies will have the time to win this.

Yeah I have the bigger version for tge league here. You csn pick up sky and the refs which is handy for a newbee to the gsme like me

Say we avoid the follow on but make 370 or so, which I think is going to be a low estimate now so unlikely anyway, but say that were the case, if Clarke had the stones he could decide that they just go for a quick two hundred and twenty and then declare. If they're sat batting for anything longer than tomorrow then they can't win the Ashes, again, so if they want to win, they have to go for it.

Thing is if they declare too early England could feasibly beat them on runs if they were at their best and that would be the series over. So probably too big a risk, but unless they're happy to draw at best they are going to have to go for something like that I feel.

The Aussies may as well go for the win, anything else is no good for them. Clarke showed with the declaration that they will go for it. 99% of teams would have batted on there with 2 batsmen on for 100s and ground the opposition into the dirt with 600 on the board (look at us at Lord's, we batted on for Root to try and get him his 200).

They will go for it but our resistance, plus the good old Manc weather will see this as a draw.

Ashes retained. 8-)

It does but with him coming down the wicket on first viewing I thought it was comfortably swinging down the leg side. Haddin thought that too, he was off down the legside to take it. So I can understand why they didn't review it.

Going to be interesting last couple of days regardless of the weather as they have to go for it. I don't think they'll be bothered about going 3-0 down if it happens from them trying to win this match and the series.

Need a good session here though, can't afford to lose more than 1 wicket.

Maybe you're right re Haddin but I thought what put them off was the height as Pietersen was so far down the track. It looked pretty straight to me. It was worth a gamble at that stage in the game I thought.

Australia will have to improve a wee bit more to win it, and our attack would have to be below par too which it was the first two days and I don't think for example Anderson is going to be as toothless as that a second time round against a batting line up like this.

So much of their advantage was based on scoreboard pressure though and with KP on the counter a lot of that has evaporated. I think he's over rated, KP, he's undoubtedly excellent on his day but I think too few of those days have happened agaisnt oppositon of any clout, but he remains the only England Batsman who can turn defence into attack at present, although Bell is getting there
