From BBC:

Alastair Cook has now moved past Colin Cowdrey's tally of 7,624 runs to become the sixth highest England Test run-scorer. He's not got long before he should pass Mike Atherton (7,728) to enter the top five, where he will join Graham Gooch (8,900), Alec Stewart (8,463), David Gower (8,231) and Geoff Boycott (8,114).

Cook has a higher average than any of these players - and than Kevin Pietersen, who began this Test only 40 runs behind Cowdrey.

2 an over shock horror

320 to avoid the follow when Aussies can smell blood the run rate is an irrelevance. Bat this out and Ashes aren't going away. Ponting, Clarke and Gilchrist at their best might have been able to chase and overtake this sort of deficit with enough time to win but we aren't going to so it really dosent matter how much or little we score so long as we bat for a while

I know I know it's just well a bit shite, and kudos to lancashire for providing a f***ing road.

Nah good pitch this, bowlers have to work to get something out of it, batsmen have to work to get in but can take it back to the attack if they do. A good paceman would be having a great time though.

Not a fan of ground staff prepping pitches to favour their home team.

Which begs the question why is tremlett not in the side.

And by work do you mean having fuck all chance of of getting a wicket, this is going to peter out to a dull draw where we retain the ashes. woo hoo

Not that I'm a cynic or anything, but they haven't had a major test match in years and spent a fortune on redevelopment, they'll be desperate for the match to go 5 full days to get every last penny off the punters.

Trott not coming out with half an hour to play. f***ing selfish bottle job. If I was Bresnan I'd have told him to fuck off and go out and do his job.

He might not have had a choice in the matter. It's no doubt something the management would've discussed prior to the batsmen going out.

But you keep on berating one of our players.

Commentators have always said it is purely the batsman's choice whether they have a nightwatchman.
