They've also repeated the common error that Carter captained the 1936 title winning side. Alex Hastings was the skipper, though Carter deputised when Hastings was injured, or playing for Scotland, and Carter was captain on the day that the title was won at Birmingham. The trophy was presented to Hastings at the following game, at home to Huddersfield
