Har far back do you go to blame people? The Labour government of the 70s couldn’t guarantee domestic power when I was a child. I blame them for me not fulfilling my potential. Her policy, her legacy.

Done a bit thinking about this the last few years, lads of my age waited a long time for a labour govt or a govt with a social conscience and we got Tony Blair Ffs took us to war on a lie then his mate sold off the gold.Har far back do you go to blame people? I left St Bobs 82 and served my time within a mile of Pallion shipyard and Doxfords where me father served his.Left shiney como 1982 apprenticeship at the yards supposedly a job for life, disillusioned at closures sat at 57 semi retired after hawking my arse all over the world doing my bit wondering what the Fukk happened or what was right or wrong, drove past the yard I saved my time at hoping to Fukk this film studio really takes off
Me fatha still goes to the Doxford old boys meetingsI missed the last wave of apprenticeships in Sunderland yards, despite my grandad being a huge inspiration to me as a time served fitter and turner.
I did manage to wiggle my way into structural draughting then design in my twenties and I think he’d be proud of me.
I do remember teachers at school implying the career routes were quite limited but defined, then after 1984 ish there was no clear direction.
I’ve got a aluminium plaque with Doxford in my garage from my granda and I’ve worked in many shipyards over the years. But none on the Wear.
Careful now that won’t go down well.I'm mid 40s and can honestly say I've not knowing one person who has been unemployed (and wanting to work) my whole life.
Well if the IRA had done better job that day then many of todays woes may not have come home to roost. Housing, energy spring to mind etc. whilst I’m not condoning terrorism I wouldn’t have shed a tear if they had got her.If I knew what you meant, I wouldn't have asked marra.
Glad you enjoyed your breakfast.

Ah the old sold the gold argument. You do realise that the Bank of England advised that action?Done a bit thinking about this the last few years, lads of my age waited a long time for a labour govt or a govt with a social conscience and we got Tony Blair Ffs took us to war on a lie then his mate sold off the gold.
was listening to gonk fist - a place where I belong in the week and there’s a few sound bites from that era, oz in particular “theres knee jobs knee hope knee nowt” just brought all this shit back like.
as the butcher said whole communities devastated man, in some places we have a couple of generations now with a nowt to lose attitude so just take or do what they like
sad as fukk man.
But you get what I mean....I grew up with food rationing, but no way am I going to harp on forever about Hitler ruining my childhood as I'd look like an absolute loon. Not my words Gelan. Check out the Frank Turner song for some context m.
People these days laugh when I say I left shiney comp and I didn’t know what a university was, I’d heard of them but didn’t know how to get there a bit like hogwarts a bit of a mythical place.Nothing wrong with closing the pits and yards - it needed to be done as there was no demand for them any more and you'd just be funding industries for the sake of it.
The issue was the lack of any replacement jobs / training for the people working in them effectively leaving people lost with no income or real potential as the only skills they had were worthless.

Drastic solution to a drastic problem, I would imagine.Ah the old sold the gold argument. You do realise that the Bank of England advised that action?
No offence, but you can’t blame Thatcher for that, she was ousted in 1990.
Think Mark was a "wrang un" ?Thatchers children. Is that the same as the Hitler youth ?

ps. Thatcher didn't kill 6 million Jews either.
I seeI think he is referring to events during and post World War 2 where Britain introduced food rationing.
