That Epsom College thing

I was reading about it yesterday and just assumed it was something like they’d died of carbon monoxide poisoning with the “no one else involved” line.

Now it seems the whole place is sealed off, police everywhere and they’ve shut down the rifle range (which every state comp should have).

Sounds more sinister now :(

It said in the BBC report that they weren’t looking for anyone else which made me believe one of them had flipped.

It’s absolutely awful, seeing and living through your final moments, with someone you trust the most 😞.

It may just be me, but I find the media coverage of this a bit off. Suicide is a tragedy, and I really feel for anyone who gets to that point. However taking others with you is murder, no matter what your social standing.

There’s what seems a single mother, with 3 kids all over the press at the minute. She is correctly in my opinion, being accused of attempted murder, for stabbing one of and harming one of her other kids. Had a report of concern not been raised this would likely have gone the same way.

Why though is one a tragedy and reported the way it is, is it seriously because of the fact of the class of people?

According to the press the school has a rifle club and stores arms on the site. Who on earth thinks it appropriate or necessary to have guns in or around a school of all places ?

Given the number of tragic incidents that involve guns and schools in the USA and our own terrible experience at Dunblane what sort of a parents think that having guns in a school that their kid attends is a desirable thing?

Whatever the circumstances of this particular horror turn out to be I wonder if Espom School will continue hold on to its rifle range & teach its kids how to shoot?

Why not, I'll be surprised if the guns (Probably small caliber) weren't locked up pretty securely, if not, then I'd be shouting to shut it down, teaching to shoot includes proper security/storage lessons, not sure circumstances, how or what till facts are out, but banning things as a knee jerk reaction to a incident is short sighted. What next archery club disbanded, home economics gone due to knife attack in class, maybe daft examples, but knife crime seems rife in the UK, shops are still selling knifes, if a disgruntled bloke/woman wants to off his family, they'll always find a way, luckily these are rare occasions, hence why making headline news.

The bloke that won a gold medal at the Olympics shooting clays was taught to shoot at his school following a snow boarding injury
Now , I don’t remember that being on the options at monkey house.

This level of intent is normally the bloke being the aggressor and he might have been a licensed holder but that might come out.
One of the last jobs I did in the London ambulance service was similar sounding to this but he took both kids and wife with him with an illegal shotgun. There’s not a day goes by I don’t think of it and it’s over 20yrs ago

As far as I’m aware all of the incidents in the USA, and Dunblane, involved privately owned arms being brought onto the school premises.

It would appear certain schools in this country have held weapons on their premises for decades without an incident I can think of until, perhaps, now.

So in answer to your question I would think many rational parents would not see an obvious issue with the school choosing to hold arms if that’s the sort of school they’ve chosen to send their child to.

Where in my post do I talk about "banning things" ? Seems you may be guilty of a bit of a knee jerk reaction there.

Sorry, in the context of the school banning, shutting down the rifle club, not as a whole Country type thing. Although, in today's world, and close scrutiny they probably could/would take that option of just closing the rifle club/range, I hope not, as there are positive sides to the clubs as mentioned further up.

We had a rifle range on site.

The issue isn't the rifles or the range. It's the individual.
