Thai cave boys

Not necessarily.
I would think they’ll have a good idea what the maximum water levels could be from existing watermarks and if they thought it immediately urgent then they be taking more urgent action.

Think they said a monsoon might be on the way or something

Its a risk leaving them there.

Can't imagine how it happened, flooding must have happened very fast.

The Chilean miners were 700 meters underground and it took about two and a half months to get them out, so there may be little time diffence between waiting it out and trying a similar operation.
Are the tunnels not under a mountainside or steep hills in the middle of a forest?
You would never get the heavy plant machinery and boring exuipment in position from the satellite images I have seen in the news

Plus, how accurate would they need to be to drill to the correct position?

Edit; 100% of course you pedantic sods.

I meant how hard would it be.

I think technically they can drill very accurately

Feasibility in that location very hard... Carve a road in get all the rig gear and drill 800+ metres... Take ages

Still think best bet is tk put as.big a series of pumps as possible to keep tbe water levels down or stable and hope dor a dry wet season

I did not see this. It sounds like a possible idea. A sealed tube that gets opened up once in place. ???

What was the kiboshing of the idea?

Seriously... You would need a mile of it and its not a straight run.. Over rocks, round bends.. Up and over

Any info on the volume of water they need to pump out?

As quick as you pump it fills.. Ita all porous.. Best you could hope is keeping levels stable and if possible reduce it in places. Might make it possible to do the dives in sections of couple hundred metres at a time

Sorry if seb but
If they are trapped in a cave by water were is the air coming from?
There was a report the other day that said the geography of the area was covered in pot holes and fissures going in to the cave system. I believe that these are being investigated to see if there is another way but it would seem to be a long shot. I would imagine that the cave system is massive and the surface is covered in thick forest so its not exactly like North Yorkshire were all the entrances and exits to the underground system are very well known

The report also said that one of the boys had claimed he could hear a cock crowing and people talking which may have entered the cave through cracks and holes. Whether this was the lad's imagination or if real how big those holes and cracks are it is impossible to know.

Yup. Can they not just drill down to them again?

The miners were at a mine.. lots of drilling gear on land used to drilling and access available. it still took over 2 months

this is in uneven deep rainforest. the logisticas are far harder and if its going to take 3 months they might as well sit it out

The best chance might be in the next day or two before the rains hit.. the pumping seems to be making some impact

Attempts are being made to reduce the risk of further flooding by pumping water from the cave system, Mr Anupong said.

Water levels have dropped by more than 40cm (15in) since Wednesday, with rescue workers now able to walk through a 1.5km (0.9 mile) stretch from the entrance to what's being called the third chamber.

About 128 million litres of water had been pumped out by Thursday, with the water levels coming down at an average rate of 1.5cm per hour.

I was under the impression that Drillers Supply SA used their own equipment that they imported to the site, but fair enough.

I would have thought levelling a surface for a dril rig wouldn’t be that much of an effort when you have a country’s whole armed forces at your disposal?

Personally, I’d be trying to get them out ASAP and utilising all resources.
