The reason there’s more public interest is because it’s been engineered to be so.

There’s probably more than a football team’s worth of Rohingya kids being driven out of their villages as I type, probably a couple of centre halfs in Somalia being taught to fire an AK47, probably a netball team worth of early teenage girls in Afghanistan being raped by some “uncle”, but that’s for another time, another agenda.

We see what they want us to see.

Nailed it there Flick, and hear what they want us to hear. This morning the BBC were broadcasting the sound of the rain pouring down, left it going for a while too.

Don’t get me wrong, I get it. It’s the way the media operates. It’s the same when you get the “plane crashed in some foreign climes, no Brits dead or injured... and finally, look at the cute panda baby ...”

Didn’t not the nine o’clock news do a newsreader sketch on exactly those lines years back

Almost certainly. Nowt much has changed except we all got older.

Old folks, miserable, grumpy gits taking up all our resources. Now here’s Nellie who is 108, got all her own teeth, 47 great grand children, loves a wee nip of whisky each night and has received her telegram from the Queen.

Is that how long it’ll take to get out?

What the fuck was the coach doing

6 hours in (diving against the current) and 5 hours out (going with the current).

On the coach front, there would have been no water to swim in at the time. Still, what was he thinking man, going deep into caves during the rainy season.

I'm sure I hear/read somewhere that they would be stopping at points in the journey to rest also.

No offence personally mate, but this post illustrates what I'm trying to say.

Situations like this are manipulated into some kind of countdown scenario where 'we only have a few minutes to transform this housewife's garden/house/physical appearance'.

During which time the viewers get involved with their opinions and guesswork until eventually everyone uses the same 'buzz phrases' and they all sound like experienced interior designers or whatever.

What happens with tragedies, like this, is that people 'become involved' until they're quoting facts as if they already knew them.

I suppose it's because things are turned into game shows as @Flared Hicks alluded to ...

"This baby gazelle has been seperated from its mother, there are lions encircling it, time is of the essence. Will it survive or caught and torn to pieces."

Call 001 for 'eaten alive'

Call 002 for 'safe home with mum'

Call 003 for 'make friends with a lion cub and go out to play'

I blame Trump for that poor gazelles separation plight.
