Thoughts on this? Would they be able to put up a decent fist of it in a 5 dayer against the 'big boys', Holding reckons so? I suppose they can't be any worse than Bangladesh, and going over to Ireland for a 5 test tour would be a canny laugh.

Decent opposition for Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the West Indies but will come up short against everyone else.

Can only be good for those teams though and should improve Irish cricket massively.

W.Indies cricket is dying on its feet according to Tony Cozier. There's neither the interest nor the finance to sustain it. A lot cheaper and easier and probably safer to go to Ireland for a Test tour than the Caribbean.

:lol::lol:

You've never been to either Ireland or the Caribbean have you?

They wouldn't get a five test series against us or any other top 8 ranked team. They probably wouldn't even get a five test series against Scotland let alone Bangladesh or Rhodesia. Quite simply, none of them could afford it. In fact, I think the only series that get 5 tests are The Ashes, England v SA & SA v Convicts.

I wouldn't mind Ireland getting test status but at the same time I couldn't really care less. I suppose the one good thing would be less foreigners in our national sides that there are at the moment. Although this hasn't stopped the amount of Saffers playing for us.

Not sure they can until their domestic cricket at least becomes first class. Could be wrong but I think they only have 3 or 4 teams, which is fine, but their competition doesn't even carry first class status. Once that is in place I am sure it would be a matter of time.

There are too many test nations as it is. Two of them shouldn't be anywhere near the test arena. They just happen to be the last two given full status.

ODIs are a different gravy. Leave things as they are.

Is it worth creating two divisions. There's little point in Zim, Bangladesh and WI playing test cricket against any of the big teams. Ireland would probably give these a canny game. With Moores in charge we might fancy playing them before to long !

Why is Test status the holy grail? And why do we stop countries playing 5 day cricket?

Sorry slovenia, you can only play 7-a-side with rush keepers until we decide you are good enough

It's bizarre

I don't think it'll be long until there's a two division system in place with 3/4 year promotion and relegation.

If it stops Irishmen turning out for England I'm all for them getting their own test matches.

Michael Holding is "fearful that other Ireland players, like Eoin Morgan and Boyd Rankin, will switch to England".

Not as fearful as we are marra.
