Ten Hag…..

As has been pointed out they’re a club that has won leagues and champions leagues under 2 managers post war but walk around with the expectations of a club like Real Madrid who have always won when for the majority of their history they are a cup side

Obviously they are a huge club in their own right and most would agree the biggest in the country with only Liverpool offering any sort of challenge but that’s probably where they are victims of their own success in that they created their modern identity in line with the formation of the Premier league, armed with a great manager who could rebuild sides they bought into everything that premier league is about in terms of hype and razzmatazz (or self promoting bullshit whichever you prefer) and reaped the rewards commercially as well as being able to dominate the league for the majority of its first 2 decades

This in itself creates a fanbase very different from most, no real identity to the club, but high expectations, accustomed to having bragging rights and large in number, they play to this and there whole Modus Operandi is about being the self proclaimed biggest and the best which is all good if you can back it up but setting up your own downfall if you don’t, just look at how they promote themselves and imagine they signed say Mbappe and then compare that to if a Liverpool or Arsenal did

You can bet your bottom dollar that they would hype it up to high heaven, there would be hashtags, emojis released and all sorts of shite hyping up and anything to get clicks and views that anything less than a hattrick in his first game would be a let down, one of the the other clubs managed it and yes the fans would be excited but the club official communication probably wouldn’t be much different to signing say Gravenberch or Timber and would remain professional, this attitude falls onto the players being hyped and told they’re the best from day dot with wages to match and there’s a sense of already made it, no doubt their winning squads also had egos but Ferguson managed to maintain a winning mentality alongside to ward off the complacency

I think they’re too big and resourceful to never get back to winning leagues and champions leagues so i’ll enjoy it whilst it lasts but it’s interesting to note there better finishes in the last decade of 2nd and 3rd are the same as what were the ‘poor seasons’ under Ferguson in the premier league era, obviously he left having won the league with a squad that wasn’t one of his best, it’d be interesting to see how it would’ve played out had he retired when he initially intended in 2002, there won’t be any managers at any club lasting as long as he did going forward I don’t think so whilst it’s not a case of bringing someone else in to try build a similar dynasty they do need a huge character to get anyone to last like Klopp and Guardiola have and not be their usual 2/3 season cycle, they also need to redefine the club and realise it’s unlikely to ever repeat their previous dominance whilst still having ambition to compete on all fronts, they can blame the Glazers all they like and they aren’t good owners by any means, but the transfer fees and wages put up have been more than sufficient for any club and the same managers and CEOs wouldn’t have spent the same money any better under Qatari ownership so total revamp needed

Having done without Sky for a good number of years I subscribed to watch the playoffs back in May. Sat down to watch my first a Sunday afternoon Premiership match Arsenal v Man Utd. In truth I thought our game on Saturday was better.
Agreed - thought they were both shit tbh

Everyone plays the same way - it’s so boring imo

Smacks of Mourihno, players fault, officials fault, but never my fault

The #2 Ajax players he spent a fortune on wouldn't get in any top 6 side in the premier league,

Personally I think he's a fraud

Fair play to Sancho for firing back at him. Seems quick to criticise and drop Sancho yet that showpony Brazilian on the right wing seems to be untouchable.
I think he personally wanted him there which makes it's worse for himself if he drops him. Think they gave 80million for him too 😭

Add in Onana for a big fee who he’d had at Ajax as well, looks decent on the ball but error prone as a keeper to me, you don’t see many top club managers taking players from club to club these days so maybe suggests he’s lacking somewhere to be spending big on players he had before (who aren’t all that)

Think Guardiola for example only took Nolito to city that he had at Barca or Bayern and quickly dispensed of him

Klopp never took anyone from Dortmund I don’t think

Both the above examples you could argue that their previous clubs were a closer fit to their current clubs than Ajax (or more the Dutch league) is to Man United

it looks tbh as though as the Ajax players worth owning are the ones west ham bought...not the ones Man utd bought..
