If you're not bothered about a watermark on any drawings then AutoCAD offer a fully functional "student" version for free.

LibreCAD is opensource and free.

I was an auto Cad back in my clubbing days with so much fanny to choose from. I could not help it in such bountiful times.

Look at Draughtsight. 2D is free and an Autocad clone made by Dassault who make Solidworks.

Even the written commands are the same as Autocad.

There is basic 3D stuff included but I wouldn't bother as you can't manipulate the entities once made.

My kids used Rhino Cad when they were at school - supposed to be more user friendly than AutoCad (that wouldn't be difficult) - and it's bound to be cheaper if the school used it!
