Considering how much of an awful decision it looks to send Brown off instead of O'Shea, looking at the angle he saw it from, I can see why he gave it the way he did. It does look like 2 fouls with Brown being the one that eventually brings Falcao down (from East's full pace, one view angle), not good enough but human error and not fair to always blame referees. This is the sort of decision that could easily, and immediately, be rectified by a 4th official/technology. Been proven to work with goal line technology. Obviously there must be a line to it as there are times people disagree after seeing multiple slowed down replays, but if anything that just emphasises how tough it is for refs to make split second decisions under pressure. If the governing bodies can work out a system that suits immediate replays for obvious fouls/cards etc it would be majorly beneficial to the game.

exactly. It's the stubbornness and the insult to my intelligence that i get annoyed with

he's proven exactly why referees are held away from the media spotlight. He's released a statement consisting of about 3 lines and has completely fucked it up for himself and the prem league. Should we appeal, they can't transfer ban based on East's statement now.

Which is why we absolutely should appeal and make sure everyone knows about it.

if they were useless and honest i'd have some sympathy, as it is they're bad at their jobs and liars.

At the time, you could see why it was given the way it was.

2+ hours after the game though and he's still claiming he meant to send Wes Brown off (for a non-existent foul)??
Haven't seen those comments, but that's one of the big stumbling blocks if so. Lack of accountablility/chance for refs to ever explain or admit to clearly wrong decisions, which would massively help their cause and increase understanding from fans in my opinion.

He's released a statement tonight in which he claims he seen O'Shea's contact but stands by the decision to send Brown off as it was Brown who fouled Falcao as Falcao shaped for the shot. 2+ hours after the game and he was sticking by a decision that was ridiculed with everybody in the World of football assuming it was a case of mistaken identity.

There is no way he could clearly see whether or not Brown had fouled, well quite obviously as it turns out cos he didn't. He clearly saw O'Shea fouling. By their own rules, refs are only meant to give a decision if they are certain, he had the opportunity to do the right thing, fucked it up and is now embroiled in a shit storm of his own making.

Penalty, yellow to O'Shea, United score, nothing more to discuss.

He's his own worst enemy here.

Hmm. Makes it harder to defend when they're so stubborn, after replays when it's obvious he's made the wrong call, surely they should be admiting human error and asking for help to what is an impossible job to do without mistake, rather than give what is almost a middle finger to Wes Brown and Sunderland...

Still think they get too much stick but they (or the FA) don't make it any easier...

If the institution claim it was a Brown who made the offence we should be more the entitled to claim not so, hence an incorrect decision. Let's be honest the red and his cohorts have made yet another monumental fuck up, just suprised Kevin Friend didn't pop up somewhere

Which is in our favour....

Our Friend must be going East to have a pint

He's had a mare, first with the decision and then with the statement. That statements absolutely killed him and the referees association.

They are a farce from the premier league down to sunday mornings the refs, it's out of hand how shite they are now. I can understand how he may of thought it was brown given the angle and that but then to come out with such tripe after is unreal
