Taxi from Durham last night.

Only once ever got a taxi from the city of Durham back to Sunderland 8 years or so ago, was on a night.

Cost £24 I think, shows much prices have gone up since then.

I was expecting about £40-50 last time we got an Uber back to Sunderland from Durham but it was about £32. That was 18 month ago now like, likely gone up since.

Thats not the point. Its extortionate as a total.
Also depends how you split it. Lad going to the ramside could get a taxi on his own for less than £16. Generally when out in town I share a taxi with my mate who gets dropped of in Ryhope so he pays whatevers on the meter upto that point then I pay for the rest of the journey as I live miles away.

That doesn't seem too bad? Pretty much what I'd expect to pay these days, especially with 3 drop offs. The taxi lot need to make a living somehow. Very rarely I'll use a taxi mind so maybe I'm less bothered by a cost like this for a one off expense.

Agreed, petrol has gone up as well as cost of living so taxi drivers need to make a living. If you don’t like it, have a designated taxi driver, which will reduce taxi numbers available and increase prices even more.

Jumped in a taxi on the rank , one drop off near Ramside , one drop off near the Board Inn then down to Fatfield.

All three drops where prompt road side drops not waiting for ages.

I was getting dizzy watching the figures going round on the meter.

£48 f***ing quid.
Remember I once got a taxi from Skegness back home to Washington for £90 🤣🤣 How times have changed.

True story, bro.

One of my brothers had a company night out, in Northampton iirc.

He had a local hotel booked but he got blottoed and forgot, so he got a taxi home that was 80+ miles away!

I was working down there at butlins, used to come home every 2nd weekend in works minibus. Went out and got shitfaced one Thursday night. Went back to the B&B packed me bags and headed to the taxi office round the corner 🤣🤣 Best part about it, I was due home that weekend so would have been in minibus by 2pm the next day if I had stayed 🤣🤣

Cheap that

Last time I was home got an Uber from Newcastle to Durham. Was £38. Following morning Durham to Birtley. Was £36.
Can the Uber drivers set their own rate then as that makes no sense.
Theyre app varies the rate as they are all private hire vehicles they don’t legally have to be fitted with a meter

This, we prefer around North Road now, compared to the Gala area. Even the fighting cocks is okay, as long as you've had a few.
Bridge, Station House, Head of Steam, Elm, Angel, Holy Grale our usual route. Then it may descend into Whiskey River, Blue Eye & Fabios. But i'm getting too old for that nonsense now.

Seems very fair

I don't even bother with taxis now, seems a chew on even getting one now. I went out in Newcastle last night. 79 quid to stay at the Hilton. Its cheaper than a return taxi for me. Just need to book well in advance that the only down side.
