Tax Return

Not about Zahawi.

Anyone else leave it to the f***ing deadline every year and then regret it.

Mines relatively simple but still takes seemingly bloody ages.

It must be a bloody nightmare for anyone with anything remotely complex.

Been working 55 hours a week during the working week, then another 6-10 on the weekend for the whole month to get the tax returns done. People are still sending the stuff in now with an expectation of them being done on time.

Brain is absolutely fried there is no way the standard of work churned out can be as good as earlier in the year. Had one send in a messy Australian rental property today, will all need converting FFS.

I would like to make an example of the repeat offenders and let them get fined and pay interest but not allowed.

1.5 days left!!!

Had an email 10pm Sunday night asking if they can bring the details into me today.

Erm no

I haven’t done self assessment for years and years and I’m retired now.

But when I had my own business I was very keen to keep on top of all that stuff (my tendency toward anxiety and over-planning helped in that regard) but it was still a worry and a ballache. Mainly because other people were affected if I got the numbers wrong.

But later, when I did self assessment whilst employed - for which I was randomly selected although it may be due to the previous employment and hangover from it resulting in occasional additional earnings or liabilities - it was a doddle. Because I kept on top of it.

So my advice is to keep on top of it a don’t leave it till late.

I got mine wrong and ended up with a £40k tax bill to pay.
I'd classed myself as having a self-employment when I wasn't. I'm a director and classed as employed. So was taxing me on my turnover when it shouldn't have been. Sorted now and paid.

Nah, had mine in and paid at the start of the month.

Filled most of it out before Christmas to be fair just didn’t submit it.

Should add, this was the first year I’ve had to do one and I was pretty pro-active in case it took longer than expected. Definitely not a pattern of getting it sorted promptly

Never understood why people leave it so late. Fair enough paying last minute but not to have it sorted is nuts
