Taking the dog for a walk

Take the dug out on a morning about 30-45mins, same on the night weather permitting, quick round the block if its pissing down. Either Saturday or Sunday is spent walking the dog somewhere further afield for most of the day as well

basically this

Absolute rubbish.

Well socialised dogs of lead can be better behaved than unsocialised dogs on lead.
Badly behaved dogs off a lead are dangerous and their owners should be imprisoned If they injur a child.

There definitely should be places where dog owners can walk their dogs without idiots without leads. Also places where those off leads can run free.

It’s the helmets that can’t control their dogs that should be punished not us with well socialised dogs. Had mine off along the beach for an hour this morning dogs running all over not a bit of bother

As long as your dogs never attack other dogs or scare children then they're not a problem. Plenty jump up at kids, snap at other well behaved dogs on leads.

Can't argue with that but you seem to have an agenda consisting of badly behaved dogs attacking other dogs and children.
I'm sorry if you've had a bad experience in the past but that's not the way my dogs behave.
The government should just make it Illegal to have dogs off a lead except in designated areas.
Pretty extreme views there.
As I said I'm sorry if you've had a bad experience previously but what you've experienced is a badly behaved dog full stop. That shouldn't dictate government policy for all dogs off lead.

Lambton Park only allows dogs on leads.
Parts of Seaburn beach are off-limit for dogs at certain times of the year.

To answer the original question, my dogs get two walks per day. One 20-30 minute and one 30 minute to one hour midweek then either the same or longer at weekends.
90% off lead.

The problems I've experienced this last year have been increased litter and 'lockdown idiots' who wouldn't normally spend any time in the places I go.
Now that the country is opening up again, hopefully they'll vacate our parks, woodlands and open areas.

A worry of mine is 60% of households in the UK now have a dog.
I predict a lot of dogs going into rescues once they get bored with them or go back to what they used to do pre-lockdown.

My two are warm and have gone into their kennel in the shade - they will come out when I get the hose out and have a play while getting soaking wet - they like to bite the hose !!!!

I don't think I've had a problem with your dogs mate. Sorry if it came across that way

I noticed that earlier. It's just along the road from me.

We got one just before lockdown, the prices now are madness.

Can't excuse dogs scaring your kids mate but from my experience there's been a huge number of people in parks and woodlands during lockdown who've never been there before and don't know how to behave.
Dog walkers, families, walkers on their own, littering, not picking up dog muck, dogs never been walked before so don't know how to interact with other dogs etc.
Hopefully now the Metro centre is open again these people will return there for their days out and leave our natural areas to people who walked them anyway pre-lockdown.
They’re lovely dogs I’m sure but there has been an absolute explosion of poorly trained or socialised cockapoo’s that persistently bother my hound and their owners have a propensity to be really arsey if he grumbles or snaps at them. He’s perfectly fine with most dogs but has definitely developed a dislike of poodle crosses! He was nipped by an out of control standard poodle a couple of years ago so is a bit on edge with anything poodle like but fine if they know dog etiquette.
Walks wise, 30 mins in morning, hour in evening and sometimes a quick pootle in between or last thing before bed.

In my experience dogs are much less likely to be aggressive if both off lead but that obviously carries the risk of being difficult to control if it does happen.

dog parks, bought and maintained using the money from sizeable dog license fees and fines for fouling/anti social behaviour.

Too many folk seem to have bought a hound during lockdown for something to do but haven’t been arsed to train it properly. They are giving responsible owners a bad name.

Is that right? 60% is a huge proportion. In lockdown one everywhere I walked ours had loads of people out and about with a dog but it’s already much quieter despite some decent weather. I suspect you’re right about rescues, can only assume all those dogs are still there but not being walked anymore.

On lead walks aren't enough for lots of dogs

Mine would never tire if I walked them on leads all the time like
How does that work, surely they're by your side the whole time not running meters ahead scaring the shit out of children and other dogs?

In an ideal world there would be a fenced off area where you and other like minded owners could let your dogs run free.
