He inherited a side of serial losers who had been fighting relegation every season for years
Granted but should they not have been fully capable of ensuring promotion at the first time of asking? That squad was fully capable of bouncing back straight away but we were set up to scrape a draw from day one.

Can't help but think the owners Eastleigh mentality rubbed off with his management and backroom staff acquisitions. He made us quickly know our place in this league and even a 46000 attendance on boxing Day didn't open his eyes to the fact we were a big fish drowning in a puddle. His evaporating puddle of ever diminishing budgets. All he had to do was throw us back in the water so we could breath.

We were set up several different ways that season in doomed efforts to find a blend. You could equally argue that in hindsight we actually overachieved, rather than underachieved.

I dont agree with that. If we had started off sluggishly as a result of back to back relegations, losing mentality and gradually improved and fell just short i could have accepted that. However we played our best stuff at the beginning of the season and got progressively worse with lots of resources at our disposal. If we coudn't find blend that's unacceptable by the manager at those recruiting players.

Genuine question. Is that SD's fault or does the blame lie at Jack Ross's feet?

The buck stops at the owner.
Disagree mate. Sure, the owner employs the manager but the manager picks the team, decides on formation and tactics.

Don't get me wrong, SD has fucked up royally but blaming him for not getting promotion at the first attempt is probably a bit harsh seeing as we were really only 1 goal away.

Both I think. The poor handling of the Maja situation by the board was a big factor and the huge amount of money wasted on a dud of a replacement that Ross didn't want. That said there was easily enough in that team, in that division with good management to get a top two space.

the Maja situation was made worse by the fact that these chancers care from Eastleigh fucks sake what did they know about feeling with millionaire agents and footballers. It’s ridiculous to think anything else but us being fucked over by Maja’s agent. These blokes didn’t have a clue how to deal with Maja or Wigan for Grigg

I agree that the Maja situation wasn't handled very well but he wasn't exactly setting the championship on fire the season before. There were quite a number of fans who were critical of having Maja and Asoro as the strikers prior to the window shutting.

The problem arose when he started banging them in. Imho thats when his agent started touting him and by the time negotiations began his head had already been turned and he was never going to stay.

Barnsley were relegated with us and were able to bounce back at first attempt despite having fewer resources.
Luton Town having only been promoted from League Two the previous season managed back to back promotions and stormed away with the L1 title.
Promotion from this division with SAFC does not require Clough-level genius.

Just admit it man, they’ve done a poor job.

Or are you just digging in and arguing for the sake of it now?;)
Have you even read the post!? It isn't defending anyone, it's a fact when we finished bottom of the Championship so he didn't exactly inherit a team full of championship and premiership players. But you crack on and spout the usual comments
That would have been a more relevant point if we had started the season with a huge hangover but we didn't. We were very good from the off, no hangover just poor management and transfer business cost us.
We didn't start the season with a lot of the players who were relegated, we made a lot of signings, and had a good enough squad to get promoted
And £50m in parachute payments to help get us back up........oh wait.
That's a different point though, I'm taking about someone saying he inherited a team full of championship and premiership players
