For corners - putting a physically small person against a strapping git big bloke at corners. 2nd half Cattermole was given the role of stopping the Cardiff guy impeding Ruiter, but immediately the ball is live you have handed a big height advantage to the opposition. Surely it makes more sense to have a tall strong defender in that role.
Forget the obvious that Cattermole had a stinker, would be the same principle with any small player.
Not convinced that it is necessarily a good tactic anyway as a clever attacker just gets the defender to impede his own goalie. Keepers tend to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to pushing an attacker out the way or when they are obstructed.
Ruiter is a good shot stopper but appears clueless in these situations as to what to expect from his defenders. He needs to judge the flight of the ball, step towards it and get to it first - didn't know i was a rocket scientist!!!
