T20 World Cup 2024

Bowling a part time spinner in the power play, with only 2 men out, is ludicrous.

How can you have a game plan and then one over into the match you switch to a ‘gut call’.

From then on we were chasing the game.

Wood’s sheer pace doesn’t frighten top order batsmen, so he needs to be used at the right time, or left out
I don't think Wood has the variety to bowl International white ball cricket.

Just looking at the permutations to qualify.

You would expect us to beat the two minnows. If Scotland beat Oman it would all hinge on NRR between us and Scotland as Australia should beat Scotland.

However there are a couple of factors that could also work against us. One is the weather and the other is the possibility of Australia throwing the Scotland game just to piss us off.
Or knocking their score off (should they be bowling first) in 19.3 overs

Yeah agreed. I thought for a while the priority in cricket generally has been bowlers who can bowl variety and accurate tight lines over sheer pace but our strategy seems to be more sheer pace.

Accuracy and variety makes the batsman work hard for the runs but Woods does half the job for the batsman at times as others have said, just connect and its four or six.

In the ODI WC some of our bowlers were too loose and bowled far too many full tosses giving away runs. Some of the other countries schooled us on how to bowl tight.

Pakistan showed the other day against the US how pace means nothing with poor bowling accuracy.

Rauf and Wood are two peas in a pod.

Woods pace was a hinderance when a ground is as small as yesterdays. One handed sixes , edges flying for fours, using his pace

We have conceded in the first ten overs in the two games 190 runs. That’s impossible to defend and changes have to be made

The Jacks decision goes down with Bobby Charlton being subbed at 2-0 up in 1970 as the worst decisions in England sporting world cups

Should have played topley with his variety and decent bowling against left handers

Agreed. He has to play the next one. We need to bowl these upcoming teams out for low scores, if we lose the toss and they bat, to bump the nrr.

Or score 200 plus and then bowl them out for a 100 or so

I like Curran as well who's very handy with the bat
