Swap deal for Borini?

I'd do it in a second. Borini is younger (potentially more valuable) and plays on the left (harder position to fill).

Synergy, Mueller.......it's all about the synergy........and your boy is starting to understand it.[DOUBLEPOST=1391613036][/DOUBLEPOST]
I think Borini is a realistic target, people keep saying "He want's to go back" He's got to say that man, Liverpool are his club, he can't come out and say "I'm staying here, fuck them" because, should we decide not to sign him he's up shit creek..... You can tell by his body language he is absolutely loving it here, he's in a League cup final and has scored in a 3-0 defeat of our local rivals whilst helping us climb the table, who wouldn't? I don't think he is good enough to secure a place in the Liverpool team, personally, I think he's mint for us but could he get ahead of the likes of Sterling, Hendo, Lucas, Suarez, Sturridge etc? Make a 3m bid, make in early in the window to signal our intentions, prepare to offer upto 6m to secure his contract.

You were doing so well until that point...

Konoplyanka (sp?) is probably Borini's replacement - when they get him, it opens up the opportunity to sign Borini for just cash, without the need of Johnson to go the other way
i doubt it. konoplyanka is primarily a winger, borini isn't.

I don't really want to sell him, but 2 months ago half the supporters would have sold him for 50 quid. Borini is only 22 instead of 26 so there is more resale value with Borini and he can play on the left. If you can do it, then you get both. If you have to choose you, I think Borini is the more valuable player long-term and probably the cheaper player to boot.

As I said though sometimes it's not about the individual it's about the interaction between the players whereby the cumulative effect is greater than the sum of the parts. It's easy to suggest that you sell Player A to enable you to buy Player B and then try to replace Player A who you sold......on paper it sounds reasonable but football is ALL about partnerships and the interaction on the pitch of differing players.......I wouldn't be messing with what works.

I wouldn't mess with it either. The boys are playing great right now. No need to change a thing. And I am a huge believer in the sum of the whole is greater than its parts theory.

I am just saying if you have to choose one, I think I would choose Borini mostly because I think they offer about the same going forward and Borini is substantially younger. Also I think it is easier to find a replacement on the right whether it be an in-house option like Watmore or Mavrias or we buy someone new.

Liverpool bought Downing for 20m and then sold him for was it 5m? They'd want funds to strengthen teams in other departments and although it's hard to tell I don't think Borini would fit in Liverpools long term plan, start with 3m, if that's knocked back as expected, rise to 5m, be prepared to go up to 7-8m at a push. For 10m I could think of better options than Borini, athough I think he's class for us.

Ten million aint want it used to be. I don't think you could get a player of Borini's skill level, age, and BPL experience for 8 million when guys like Bony and Osvaldo are going for around 15 million.

Bang on, and describes the value of a good coach and player recruitment.
I disagree, thought now vigorously, on Borini vs. Johnson as, due to how he plays, Johnson should still have a good 6 years in him.

As good as Borini is, Johnson on form has the ability to take a defence apart so he's worth a lot more than Borini.

Keep Johnson, sign Alonso and Ki, hopefully Borini too, and we'll be laughing. But most of all, hold onto Poyet.

I quite like Borini, but I don't think he's that good anyway, certainly wouldn't swap him for Johnson irrespective of Johnson's previous indifferent form.
