Surname names...

It was a common practice back at least last century. the practice was to give the child the surname of a close family friend.

have a look at the Scottish and Irish way of naming children Mac or Mc means son of, so for example Donald McDonald relates to Donald son of Donald.

That way they could identify, which family, young Donald came from. That would get rather confusing after a while though

Double barrelled surnames are worse. Used to have to be posh to have one. Now evert daft sod from a broken home gets one.

As far as the op goes has Wilson Wilson been mentioned

I never got the Scandi names properly really. At somepoint I guess every person had a different surname but then they just stuck it out and it makes no sense unless everyone had the same first name in their family line.

Like say Eriksson is Eriks son but unless your dad is called Erik Eriksson then you should either be Eriksgrandsson or have a different surname.

And at somepoint they should be called like Eriks24thGrandsson.

Stupid as fuck.

Nope, the surname is from the father's first name.
Erik Jonsson could have a son called Erik Eriksson and a daughter called Gitte Eriksdottir
